The Bhar are a Hindu caste found in North India. They are also known as Rajbhar.[1] British historian General Cunningham said that Bhars are a branch of the Ahirs.[2][3] It is also believed that the word Ahir is derived from ahi meaning serpent and therefore the Ahirs belonged to the Naga tribe.[4]
