Brownout (electricity)

drop in voltage in an electrical power supply system

A brownout is a drop of voltage in an electrical power supply. Brownouts may be done intentionally in order to reduce the load during an emergency.[1] This is done to prevent a total supply failure ("blackout").[2] Brownouts can also be caused accidentally by faults in the electrical grid which cause a drop in voltage.
