Western Australian Government Railway Class "X" or "Tribal" 1,100 hp diesel electric 3'6" gauge 2-Do-2 No.X1001 "Yalagonga", built by Metropolitan Vickers, Stockton-on-Tees in 1954 with a Crossley HST V8 engine. The first successful main line diesel locos in WA and the first (X 1001 & X 1002) to haul a passenger train into Kalgoorlie in 1954. They had considerable teething troubles with their ex-marine Crossley engine and the long rigid wheelbase but once these were cleared up they were very successful locos. Some were retro-fitted with multiple operation gear and reclassified Class Xb. X 1001 was withdrawn in 1983. At the West Australian Railway Museum, Bassendean, Perth WA, 2/10.
