John W. Byrnes

American politician (1913-1985)

John William Byrnes (June 12, 1913 – January 12, 1985) was an American politician. He was a member of the Republican Party.

Byrnes was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He studied at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Byrnes served in the Wisconsin Senate for Wisconsin's 2nd district from 1941 to 1945. Byrnes was a member of the United States House of Representatives for Wisconsin's 8th district. He served as a representative from 1945 to 1973.

Byrnes ran for President of the United States in 1964. He lost the primary to Barry M. Goldwater.

Byrnes was married to Barbara Preston. Byrnes died in Marshfield, Wisconsin from a stroke, aged 71.[1]
