Migingo Island

island

Migingo is a densely populated 2,000-square-metre island on Lake Victoria in Kenya. It is a primary source of fish for the Kenyan people and was also the center of a low-level territorial dispute between Kenya and Uganda. Two Kenyan fishermen, Dalmas Tembo and George Kibebe, settled on the island in 1991. The island was initially overgrown with weeds and had many birds and snakes. Subsequently, fishermen from Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania settled on the island due to its proximity to fishing grounds rich with Nile perch.
