Smooth endoplasmic reticulum

part of the endoplasmic reticulum with no ribosomes attached; the recipient of the proteins synthesized in the rough ER

The smooth endoplasmic reticulum, or smooth ER, is found in both animal cells and plant cells. Smooth ER helps the body make and metabolize fats and steroid hormones.[1]

Rough endoplasmic reticulum is studded with ribosomes. Smooth ER is not.[1]
