Cantonese is a language, not a mere dialect change

Even the main English Wikipedia says so. 108.13.182.18 (talk) 20:12, 12 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Basic Law of Hong Kong change

en:Language Log/en:Victor Mair says that the official languages of HK are "Chinese" and English, not "Cantonese" and English. Suzukaze-c (talk) 15:40, 27 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Is Cantonese a dialect change

I don't believe that Cantonese is a dialect of Chinese, Because if people cannot understand each other, they speak different languages, not different dialects.(This is a definition that in Linguistics). I can't read Cantonese article even I am a Mandarin user and Classical Chinese user.

dor instance, the 水(スイ, water, hydro, IIII in wangma code) not only to mean water , but also to mean effectless in Cantonese's slang.
