If we agree with this definition, then anything that happened over a generation ago must also be a Myth!! -- anon

I'd rather say, that a myth is a religius story explaining metaphysic problems.

I have added a good set of working meanings at Simple English Wiktionary. I think the first, "a story about gods" is the root meaning of myth, while the others are very common new meanings. I think that this article should focuse on this first meaning (myth as in mythology). I link to Wiktionary should be used for the other (less formal) uses. --Jared (talk) 17:14, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

I've taken out a good deal of unreferenced material. Any article on mythology ranges from stories that no-one believes are true to beliefs that are strongly held by various groups of people, and denied by others. Macdonald-ross (talk) 11:40, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
