Promotion of sento

BRPever,

You recently promoted Sentō on the basis that "After the discussion that lasted for more than 3 months, there doesn't seem to be any remaining concern against promoting the article." I would say that there was not three months of discussion. It was discussed briefly in the summer, then no discussion for August through October, then a couple days of discussion in November. It took place over several months, but was actually brief with few commenters. I had first commented, "I have corrected a few errors. [Most come from cool.jp, which is not authoritative. It's a shopping site. https://cooljp.co/info/aboutcooljapan]. Needs a lot more work. Too much overgeneralizing." I corrected a few, but there were many more. The editors seemed to have let this go dormant as often happens, so I didn't address too much attention to it. I should have. It is chock full of errors and overgeneralizations and is very poorly sourced. See the recent history for things I have deleted as incorrect or out of date. It relies on two books from the nineties and a bunch of travel sites. Stripes is not a very authoritative source in Japan. Neither are BBC or CNN travel. It is pretty easy to get published on these sites. There are many local sources which are better. Finally, the article is about public baths, but never actually describes the baths in any detail. At this point, there is not much to the article, but I do not really have interest in spending hours writing about this. It is not a good use of my time. And, it is at least partly underpinned by the usual "Japanese are weird" press attention. I should have pointed out all of the flaws earlier, but thought the proposing editors would wander off as usual, which is pretty much what happened. It was not revised much. I'll do my best to fix it up a bit more, but it really is incumbent on the proposing editors to have it in shape. It is not incumbent on an admin like you to fix it for them. Thanks, --Gotanda (talk) 00:00, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Gotanda The discussion was open for more than 3 months, and there were people willing to work on the article.
Suggestion for improvement and follow up can make the process smooth, and the lack of that, can freeze the discussion. While it is not entirely your responsibility to point out the flaws and possible improvements, any suggestion for improvement is always appreciated. That being said, when I looked at the discussion then, it didn't appear that the follow up from those working to get the article promoted were lacking, and there were few already supporting the promotion.
As I pointed out in my closing statement, there was no significant concern left in the discussion, but instead some were on the favor of promotion. Our GA and VGA processes are already lengthy and discouraging since the discussion takes too long and there is lack of follow up from those giving feedback and suggesting improvement. In such a scenario, those working to improve the article have no choice but to wait since the criteria only allows one nomination at a time. (I believe this is also why people propose multiple pages for promotion at the same time.) Thanks -- BRP ever 08:56, 4 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Blanking of page

Hello, I'm just letting you know that Mary Shelley has been blanked. I was going to revert the blanking, but I saw something about the page being used for a school project and to contact an admin for assistance, so I thought I'd ask you about it. Thanks! Hello, it looks like vandalism and has now been reverted. Please feel free to remove/revert any blatant vandalism on such pages. Thanks :)-BRP ever 09:39, 10 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

I Need Help

Hello @BRPever, sorry for coming to your wall to drop this. I was blocked on Wikidata by a checkuser (@Jasper Deng) on the 24th of June. The reason was that he said my account was sock puppet and that was not the case. I was training new participants and i was using Faith Oyedepo as an example on how to create statements and items on Wikidata. When i opened the article and i started working on the article i expected the participants will watch what i was doing instead they were also in puting data at the same time with me. When i realised that is what they were doing it was a little late. I had to explain to them you don't work on the same article. I don't have a multiple account and we will never intentionally want to vandalise Wikidata. It is our home where we keep our valuable records. We can only protect it. We are only organising a training for new participants to start using Wikidata and contributing to free knowledge. We are sorry if we went over board with our training. I can assure you we are not Sock Puppets but participants who are enthusiastic about Wikipedia, Wikidata. This is the list of people that were blocked

1.Jerome1506 2.Perperment22 3.dupsylondon3 4.Oladamglobal 5.Salvadoryetty 6.Olubukunmi 7.Arowosola60 8. Philgbemio 9. Jerachin24 10 Busybee1812. They all are participants in the training.
Our meta page: WikiGlam Awareness for Librarians in Lagos State#Participants. The training is still ongoing. I have sent messages @Jasper Deng but no response. I joined the Wikidata Telegram group and also dropped a message for him there all he said was he has not seen the mail and i should explain the similarities. I sent an appeal to @DannyS712, to @User:علاء(Alaa),. Please kindly help. I have been with this block so also our new participants. We do not use multiple accounts, I am a community leader and i train people on how to use Wikipedia. I am sorry if i made a mistake. I hope this mistake can be forgiven. Thanks for your understanding and good work. Semmy1960 (talk) 10:48, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I will try asking Jasper about this and get back to you. BRP ever 11:09, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Still waiting

Hello @BRPever, trust you are fine. I am still waiting to be unblocked by Jasper Deng. Thank you for your work and support. Semmy1960 (talk) 07:50, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Semmy1960 I have looked into it, and it appears that some of the accounts that were related to you have been involved in created promotional item in wikidata. As it stands, I don't think I can unlock you there at this moment.--BRP ever 01:23, 18 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @BRPever, thank you for your response. I want you to know that those participants are new. If you teach them and the do the wrong thing, how do we teach them to get the process? Is it by banning them forever when their account is not a Sock puppet. My account is not either. I have not done anything promotional. Where did promotional come in again, i thought it was sock puppet we were dealing with? I hope all check users in the Wikidata space will one day find it in their hearts to unblock me because i am a community leader, i have contributed and still contributing to the Wikimedia projects. We love contributing and this is a learning process for me. I will tell my participants that they should stay off Wiki because they are not qualified to be in this space.I can only apologize for any inconvenience we cause the check users. You have the final power to take the decision. Thank you for your time and giving us the opportunity to contribute. Peace and love to you! Semmy1960 (talk) 12:49, 21 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Semmy1960 Normally, if it was just multiple accounts creation for different people involved in an event, I wouldn't see it as a problem. The problem comes when one of the accounts involved created several clearly promotional material. We have no means to know what happened during the event. All we have is technical data and based on that there is clear indication that one of the accounts with data matching yours did involve in those activities. In this situation, it is hard for me to unblock an account blocked by another admin. I, myself, have no means of knowing why it happened. I wish I could help, and I am by no means trying to discourage anybody's participation in the community. But there is little I can do in this situation. BRP ever 13:29, 21 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. @BRPever, i really appreciate your response and effort. We do have a meta page which i had sent the link. We had to ensure all participants opened their accounts before the day because the issue of IP Blocking was very high in Africa. I hope and pray @Japer Deng will one day find it in his heart to give us a chance to contribute again. Thanks and nice meeting you. Semmy1960 (talk) 20:34, 21 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
