Welcome to Simple.

Some helpful pages to start from are Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents and Wikipedia:Policy. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, see the Community Portal. That page also has the latest news about this Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian.

Sedan, France change

We like and strongly encourage helpful changes to Wikipedia, but an article you created was directly copied and pasted from the main English Wikipedia. Please do not do that, as such articles are usually too complex and may have templates that do not exist here. Thank you. Best regards, -- Mercy (|) 18:12, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

My word, delete first, talk later. Rich Farmbrough (talk)
Hey. I know this is a tad old, but I was just wondering if you would be interested in having this page restored and put into your userspace for you to work on?--Gordonrox24 | Talk 01:30, 11 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sure, thanks, go for it! Rich Farmbrough (talk)
Done. :) --Gordonrox24 | Talk 01:32, 11 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Portals change

We don't have portals (yet). πr2 (talk • changes) 00:54, 11 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

They are widely used. I like the way stuff gets deleted in vacuuo. Oh well. Soon tidy up. Rich Farmbrough, 21:23, 19 December 2011 (UTC).Reply
I set the portal template empty since it has 56 uses, the uses can be removed easily enough. Rich Farmbrough, 01:09, 20 December 2011 (UTC).Reply

Questions... change

Rich... please let me know what your doing :) I have removed a few template redirects you created, because they redirected to no good page. Let me know if I need to restore them, or clue me in to your thought process. Thank you! Jon@talk:~$ 23:05, 19 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Templates and categories change

Hi Rich. Thanks for helping with this— at the rate it was going, it would've taken months for that thing to clear itself! Just a couple of things: when you're changing the categorisation in templates or copying them over from enwiki, simple seems to like keeping as few cleanup cats as possible, because of the low article count. Another thing is that Template:Articleissues needs to be brought in line with any cat-based changes you make to the stand-alone templates. Osiris (talk) 12:02, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

I prefer to dump the "all articles" cats myself. En: has rather foolishly killed {{Expand}} so this aspect is out of step, but {{Multiple issues}} has come a long way since it forked. Rich Farmbrough, 12:28, 21 December 2011 (UTC).Reply
I would definitely prefer that too, except we don't have any bots dating maintenance tags over here— so all the container cats end up crammed with undated pages. I'm trying to organise a dater bot on simple talk at the moment, but some editors here strongly disagree with implementing such a system. Osiris (talk) 12:51, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Also, can we merge Template:Monthly clean-up category with Template:MonthlyCleanupCat? Or implement it across all monthly cats? Osiris (talk) 12:51, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes should be straightforward. I'll look at the undated issue. If you want me to run Femto bot and/or Helpful Pixie Bot on simple, it can be done. Rich Farmbrough, 13:41, 21 December 2011 (UTC).Reply
That'd be great if you can get it approved. Osiris (talk) 14:01, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Hm, I've already had an AWB request turned down, which is irritating, means stuff has to be done manually. Have to see to what extent simple is enabling and to what extent it is blocking. Rich Farmbrough, 17:00, 21 December 2011 (UTC).Reply

Confirm: is this a duplicate of this? Osiris (talk) 18:16, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes, sorta. What we should do is move the parent category from Category:Complex pages to Category:Pages needing to be simplified, then the split personality would go away.   Rich Farmbrough, 18:20, 21 December 2011 (UTC).Reply
Deeper explanation, {{Monthly clean-up category}} is very much smarter than the old version, although it still accepts all the parameters, as far as I can remember: but by the time I wrote it almost all the (clean up) category structure anomalies on en: had been dealt with. Rich Farmbrough, 18:23, 21 December 2011 (UTC).Reply
Yes, well I was wondering what to do about this and also this... That would certainly fix the first one. Osiris (talk) 18:22, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
I think you can override the cate names in {{Progress box}}, I'll check. Rich Farmbrough, 18:25, 21 December 2011 (UTC).Reply
Ok. Otherwise, it's easy enough to move the container cat if I can remember which templates to fix. The cleanup cat will need the subcategories moving. Osiris (talk) 18:27, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
That's fine, for the moment I fixed {{Cleanup progress}}. Rich Farmbrough, 18:30, 21 December 2011 (UTC).Reply
Nice. Osiris (talk) 18:33, 21 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Admin backlog change

Hey Rich!   Did you have a good new year's? Do you know why I'm not seeing anything pop up on Category:Administrative backlog, even when say the Quick deletion cat is full? Osiris (talk) 14:12, 1 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Meh. I think the job queue appears to be slow. I disabled the autoreport function on all of the transclusions and now they of course pop up. Osiris (talk) 16:52, 2 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes, job queue can be a problem, but it has seemed exceptionally fast on Simple. Maybe just caching? Rich Farmbrough, 19:44, 2 January 2012 (UTC).Reply
Maybe. I cleared it a couple of times and it didn't seem to do anything. No big deal. Osiris (talk) 19:58, 2 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
And another good new-year - kinda. Rich Farmbrough, 00:37, 5 January 2013 (UTC).Reply
