Flight crashed on May 18, 2018
Cubana de Aviación Flight 972 (CU972/CUB972) was a scheduled domestic flight from Havana to Holguín, Cuba, on May 18, 2018. The Boeing 737-200 flying the route crashed shortly after takeoff,[1][2] bursting into flames near Santiago de las Vegas, 19 kilometres (12 mi) from Havana city centre.[3][4][5][6] Of those onboard, 108 died and 3 survived with critical injuries.[7] and one of them died hours later at the hospital.[8]
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel stated that a special commission had been formed to find the cause of the crash.[9]
