Photograph of a Blue Wildebeest (Gnu)

Although the animal on this picture was originally named a Black Wildebeest, it is most certainly a Blue Wildebeest. An important clue was given by Jarno himself. A very strict policy is maintained in South Africa to protect Black and Blue wildebeest from interbreeding. Thus only Blue Wildebeest occur in Kruger National Park. To see Black Wildebeest you can for instance go to Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve.

This picture was taken by Jarno Elonen in March 1999 at the Kruger National park, South Africa, and contributed by himself to Wikipedia in October 2003.
