Ģerboņa heraldiskais apraksts
„Zaļā laukā no labās puses mākoņa izaugoša roka bruņās tur līku zobenu ar zelta rokturi; virs rokas viena, zem rokas divas piecstaru zvaigznes.“

Apstiprināts 1925. gada 31. oktobris.[1]

Pilsētas ģerbonis izveidots un apstiprināts 1590. gadā. Izveidojoties Latvijas valstij, 1925. gadā apstiprināja pilsētas ģerboni, tam par paraugu ņemot veco. Ģerbonī attēlotā roka tika pagriezta uz pretējo pusi un zaļajā laukā pievienotas trīs Latvijas Republiku simbolizējošās zelta zvaigznes.[2] Valkas ģerbonis ir ļoti līdzīgs tās kaimiņu pilsētas Igaunijā Valgas ģerbonim.
