Object history
Deutsch: Die beiden Tannen stehen redend für den Ortsnamen. Zugleich weisen sie darauf hin, dass Wald eine Rodungssiedlung des späten Mittelalters ist. Der Kirchturm erinnert an die bis ins 15. Jahrhundert gebräuchliche Ortsbezeichnung zu der newen Kirche in dem Wald. Bis zum Verkauf an das Hochstift Augsburg 1493 gehörten die Gerichtsrechte und Ehaften im Ort zu der Herrschaft Kemnat. Zu dieser Zeit waren die Herren von Benzenau die Inhaber der Herrschaft. Daran erinnert ihr Wappen in Silber ein schwarzer Schrägbalken, der mit drei goldenen Kugeln belegt ist. Die drei Kugeln weisen zugleich auf den heiligen Nikolaus, Patron der Pfarrkirche in Wald. Der silberne Wellenbalken symbolisiert die Wertach, die durch das Gemeindegebiet fließt.
