Summary

Description Dead Kennedys in their original lineup minus vocalist and leader Jello Biafra who is squabbling with them over royalties, on tour in 2014 as they did in 2013 and years before. By now DKs are very, very proficient at stagecraft and mastering their instruments. This only goes to show that if you live to be an old fart there are many happy returns in that. Roger Daltrey of The Who was simply mistaken. The crowd was 1/2 very active mosh pitters, I would say, some unnecessarily aggressive, and 1/2 folks standing back and taking it all in. The acoustics and the band were spot on. Skip even taunted the croud on many scores, including this being Chicago and he is from New York, the hapless Cubs, and even recited a fragment of a poem to a unison of ef-yous. Yes, it was a lovely bit of Chicago’s own Carl Sandburg. The signature moement was on the last encore piece, “Holiday in Cambodia”, when the band broke into a slow trot of “Sweet Home Alabama”, before viciously ending in the fast tune. Very much worth it, and not just to catch a bit of history.
