Description
English: Great Eastern (1858) anchored at Liverpool when used for advertising Lewis' Department Store, Liverpool

A starboard broadside view of the Great Eastern (1858), a passenger liner, later cable layer, anchored at Liverpool. Along her side is the advertising slogans of David Lewis' department store Lewis's, with stores in Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, and Birmingham. There are some people on her decks. In 1886, the ship was chartered as the 'Great Eastern Exhibition Company Ltd' and used as a floating exhibition at Liverpool, and in 1887 at Dublin and Greenock.

The edges of the negative have been masked with black paper and tape to create a narrower image boarder than the glass negative.
