Italiano: L’emblema della Città Metropolitana di Palermo – concesso con Regio decreto da Vittorio Emanuele III Re d’Italia, il 9 agosto 1910, ed approvato dalla Consulta Araldica – si inserisce nella tradizione araldica medievale, che dà vita agli stemmi di Enti o Corporazioni.

Lo stemma è costituito da uno scudo a “cartiglio”, accollato all’aquila della città di Palermo, nera, con il volo (le ali) abbassato, sormontata da una corona aurea tempestata da gemme ed ornata di due ramoscelli incrociati: un ramoscello d’olivo, simbolo della pace, ed uno di quercia, simbolo della forza. Lo scudo è inquartato in quattro quarti (diviso in quattro riquadri), ciascuno dei quali rappresenta una vasta area del territorio della provincia. Il primo riquadro, o quarto, a sinistra rappresenta Palermo, con gli smalti del capoluogo: l’aquila sveva, d’oro, coronata e con le ali abbassate, si staglia in campo rosso. Il secondo sottolinea la religiosità di questa terra e simboleggia il comune di Termini Imerese: su campo d’argento si staglia la figura di san Calogero, dalle vesti multicolori; il santo si erge sulla vetta d’un monte, impugnando il bastone da eremita con la mano destra. Il terzo quarto rimanda alla vocazione marittima del territorio, ed in particolare alla città di Cefalù, col campo di azzurro e d’argento su cui si incrociano tre pesci cefali, color oro, che convergono verso un una sfera, anch’essa d’oro. Si tratta di uno stemma cosiddetto “parlante”, in quanto i pesci cefali rimandano al nome della città di Cefalù. L’ultimo quarto rappresenta le aree interne della provincia: su campo azzurro, emerge il leone di Corleone, rampante, mentre regge, con le zampe anteriori, un cuore rosso. È anch’esso uno stemma parlante, in quanto descrittivo del nome della città di Corleone (“Cor Leone”).
