Description
English: Thin section image of Garnet Mica Schist from Salangen, Norway. showing the strong strain related to fabric of schist. The black crystal is garnet, the high order coloured strands are muscovite mica, with the brown crystals are biotite mica. The grey and white crystals are quartz and (limited) feldspar.


The 'S' of pale colour within the garnet. shows the former crenulation cleavage of the schist during an earlier stage of deformation.

Euhedric, hexagonal and isotropic garnet in the center, surrounded by mica foliations and granoblastic quartz. Overall, this thin section has a lepidioblastic (foliated (mica)) structure.
