Human rights in Uzbekistan have been described as "abysmal" [extremely bad] by Human Rights Watch.[1] The country has received heavy criticism from the U.K. and the U.S. The reasons were: possible unjustified arrests, religious persecution and torture used by both regional and national governments.

LGBT rights change

Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are the only post-Soviet states where male homosexual activity is still a criminal offence.
