James R. Ford
American mayor (1925-2017)
James Robert Ford (December 1, 1925 – October 11, 2017) was an American educator, politician, businessman and community activist. In 1972, Ford became the first African-American Mayor of Tallahassee, Florida, and the first black mayor of a U.S. state capital city. He was a member of the Democratic Party. He retired as mayor in 1986.

Ford was born in Leon County, Florida. He studied at Florida A&M University. Ford died on October 11, 2017 in Tallahassee, Florida of complications from Alzheimer's disease at the age of 91.[1]
