Janet Louise Yellen (born August 20, 1946) is an American economist and professor. She is Jewish, and was born in Brooklyn, New York City. Earlier, she was the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve System in the Clinton administration.
In October 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Yellen to be first female Chair of the Federal Reserve. She chaired the Federal Reserve from February 3, 2014, succeeding Ben Bernanke until February 5, 2018.
She is a Democrat.
