John Meurig Thomas

Welsh chemist

Sir John Meurig Thomas or JMT FLSW FRS HonFREng HonFRSE FRMS (15 December 1932 – 13 November 2020) was a Welsh scientist, educator, university administrator, and historian. He was known for his work on heterogeneous catalysis, solid-state chemistry, and surface and materials science.[1][2]

From 1986 to 1991, he was Director of the Royal Institution. In 2016, he was awarded the Royal Medal. Thomas was born in Carmarthenshire, Wales.

Thomas died on 13 November 2020 at the age of 87.[3]
