Lothar Thoms

East German racing cyclist (1956-2017)

Lothar Thoms (18 May 1956 – 5 November 2017) was an East German track cyclist.

He represented his native country at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Russia. He won the gold medal in the men's 1,000m time trial.[1]

In 1981 he was elected East German Sportspersonality of the year.

Thoms was born in Guben, Brandenburg. He died in Berlin at the age of 61.[2]
