Martinsburg is a city in West Virginia. It is the county seat of Berkeley County and with a 2020 population of 18,777, it is the seventh largest city in West Virginia as ranked by population.

History

Martinsburg was founded in 1778, by General Adam Stephen and named in honor of Colonel Thomas Bryan Martin. It was incorporated by the West Virginia legislature on March 30, 1868.

Commerce

Major employers in Martinsburg include Quad/Graphics, Ecolab, Orgill, Sino-Swearingin, FedEx, and Quebecor World. Government employers include the Internal Revenue Service, the 167th Airlift Wing of the Air National Guard, and the BATF. The now defunct Norwalk car company was located in Martinsburg.[1]
