Michael Tate

legal academic, politician and priest in Tasmania, Australia (1945– )

Michael Carter Tate AO (born 12 October 1937) is an Australian politician, diplomat, academic and priest. He is a member of the Labor Party. He was a Senator for Tasmania from 1978 to 1993. He also served as Special Minister of State (1987), Minister for Justice (1987–1993) and Minister for Consumer Affairs (1990–1992). From 1993 to 1996, Tate was Australian Ambassador to both the Holy See and the Netherlands.

Tate was born in Sydney, New South Wales.[1]
