At the age of 18, Sasha Hurtado auditioned for the twenty-second season of The Voice singing Bishop Briggs' "River". Two of the four coaches, Camila Cabello and John Legend, turned their chairs for her. Hurtado chose to be part of Team Camila, making her one of fourteen artists by the end of the Blind Auditions on Team Camila, and one of a total of fifty-six artists advancing to the Battles.[1]

In the Battles, Hurtado competed against Devix as the two sang "Electric Feel" by MGMT. Cabello deemed Devix the winner, however Hurtado was stolen by Gwen Stefani, and advanced to the Knockouts on her team, making her one of nine artists by the end of the Battles on Team Gwen, and one of a total of thirty-six artists advancing to the Knockouts.[2][3]

During the Knockouts, Hurtado was paired against teammates Alyssa Witrado and Daysia. This was the first season in the show's history to pit three artists against each other in a standard Knockout. In this round, Hurtado chose to cover Ed Sheeran's version of Foy Vance's "Make It Rain". While Stefani deemed Witrado the winner (and eliminated Daysia from the competition), Hurtado was stolen by John Legend. This made her one of the final four artists (along with Parijita Bastola, Omar Jose Cardona and Kim Cruse) on Team John, and one of a total of sixteen artists to advance to the Live Playoffs.[4][5][6]

During the Live Playoffs, Hurtado performed "Tiny Dancer" by Elton John, however was not chosen by the public, who could only save two artists from Legend's team. Legend, who could save one of his remaining artists, chose Kim Cruse, leading Hurtado to compete for the Wildcard Instant Save. For the Wildcard Instant Save, Hurtado covered "Elastic Heart" by Sia, however lost the instant save to Team Blake's Bryce Leatherwood, eliminating her from the competition along with Team Gwen's Kevin Hawkins and Team Camila's Kate Kalvach.[7][8][9]
