Richard Plantagenet (19/22[1] September 1411 — 1 January 1461/30 December 1460) was a leading English magnate and claimant to the throne during the Wars of the Roses. He was a member of the House of Plantagenet by virtue of being a male-line descendant of King Edward III. He also inherited vast estates and served in various offices of state in Ireland, France and England. He ultimately governed England as Lord Protector during the madness of King Henry VI. He was the father of Edward IV and Richard III, both Kings of England.
