fricative or affricate consonant, of higher amplitude and pitch, made by directing a stream of air with the tongue towards the sharp edge of the teeth, which are held close together

Sibilants are sounds that sound like a hiss.[1] In linguistics, a sibilant is a fricative that is louder than other fricatives. For example, [s] is a sibilant and [f] is not.
