Czech-born British playwright (born 1937)

Sir Tom Stoppard OM CBE FRSL (born Tomáš Sträussler; 3 July 1937) is an English playwright. He was born in Czechoslovakia. He is one of the most famous contemporary playwrights working in English. One of his most famous plays is called Rosencratz and Guilderstern are Dead, and is based on William Shakespeare's Hamlet. He also wrote the screenplay for the movie Shakespeare in Love with Marc Norman, winning an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. He also wrote the screenplays for Brazil, Anna Karenina and Empire of the Sun.
