I saw your message to Cromwellt and I think you did well in the article Saale. It should be no problem to other editors to correct it. At least you have the initiative to create articles. Keep up the good work. zephyr2k 16:52, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Welcome change

Hello, Cethegus/Archive1, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.

If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

Good luck and happy editing! -- Eptalon 21:33, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

  • You have done a great jon here.--Sir James Paul 18:58, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! If you could check my English sometimes that would be nice. I'm afraid it's rather poor. --Cethegus 20:08, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm not really part of this Simple Talk page, but don't worry about your english, remember, this is the Simple English Wikipedia, and that's what it is about. Visit my English Userpage at —This unsigned comment was added by 72.92.84.100 (talkcontribs) 19:41, December 20, 2006 (UTC)

Barnstar change

Congratulations: You have been awarded a Barnstar!

For outstanding work creating good articles and actually getting them in the correct categories (very hard to do for most people). You make my job of correcting categories so much easier. Creol(talk) 9 January 2007 (UTC)

I wanted to thank you for correcting my categories already for some time. Though it's rather late now: thank you! And thanks for the nice star! --Cethegus 10:51, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Nice job! change

States of matter looks 100% better to me. I can't believe the previous version lasted for 3 years, it was so convoluted it was hardly even readable English! You can remove the tag any time you want as far as I am concerned. Regards, Blockinblox - talk 15:57, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for nice comment! --Cethegus 16:08, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Your page: Fractions change

Are you truly sure a fraction must be whole numbers or integers? What if I have a plump cake and I take away 1/2 away and then take away 3/4 away? What is 3/4 of 1/2? .75 / .5? Coffsneeze 02:45, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

What is 3/4 of 1/2? Simply 3/8 --Cethegus 02:54, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
I agree, but what about 3/4 divided by 1/2? Then, I take 3/4 and multiply 1/2's reciprocal, 2. Then, I have 3/4 times 2 or 6/4. After simplifying the fraction, I have 6/4 = 3/2 = one and a half.Coffsneeze 11:18, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
I agree. --Cethegus 12:59, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Open to suggestions change

Hi, and thanks for the Welcome message on my talk page. I've come over from the main English WP and am still getting used to things. Mainly, I think I need to work on writing simply enough. But I am very open to suggestions, and if you have time to look over a few of the articles I've started, that would be great. In particular, I've had a problem with the image in the IPM article. Clarity 23:51, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Comments to Clarity change

I edited your comments to Clarity dealing with the IPM article and images. All image uploads need to be at Commons. All uploaded images to Simple are subject to being deleted on site due to our no image policy here. -- Creol(talk) 12:57, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! I didn't learn about it as I do all my uploads at Commons anyhow. --Cethegus 13:16, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you! change

"External links" vs. "Other websites" change

I just wanted to let you know that the community decided we should use the wording "Other websites" instead of "External links" on all pages with links to other websites. In the future, please use the new wording. Here are the links to the discussions if you would like to look at them: here and here. I thought you would like to know this since you create so many pages with links to other websites. Thanks! · Tygartl1·talk· 20:45, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you very much! I saw "Other websites" sometimes and wondered if there was some change but did not look systematically. Sorry! --Cethegus 21:44, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
No worries. :-) · Tygartl1·talk· 00:33, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

From En WP change

Your efforts on creating articles on this wiki based on those in English Wikipedia are of course of high importance to me. I think you could upgrade your standards, in that you only create articles based on "sourced" articles in En WP, and make sure the article in this wiki also cites its sources correctly. Huji 18:38, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

As far as I know I never used any information from English Wikipedia that was marked as not sourced and I would be grateful if you would delete this information as soon as you find out that I used it. - As far as articles are concerned they may contain sourced information of importance even if some of their statements are not sourced. But I'll try harder to mention such references. --Cethegus 04:45, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
As far as I have noticed, you have never used any information from En WP articles with {{unsourced}} or similar templates on them. However, there are many unsourced article on En WP with no such a template on them. Anyways, your trying to mention referecens is highly apprecaited. Huji 07:22, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Simplifying text change

I think you created Lithosphere by copying the text from English Wikipedia. Are you going to simplify it later on? Can I help in that regard? Huji 18:39, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

I started to simplify already but I am grateful for further simplifications because I have always to be a bit cautious with that as my knowledge of English is rather restricted. --Cethegus 21:16, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Same here! (I mean, about having a restricted knowledge of English) but I try to stay bold. I will give it a try. Huji 03:08, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Simple Wiktionary change

Hi, Cethegus! I've noticed your recent absence from SE Wikt. I've set a target of 2,000 entries in the next month. I hope you'll come on in and help us reach it.--Brett 17:05, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

ActionScript change

Hi
I've taken some actionscript from your page, the link that lets you see which articles you've created (Articles) and I was wondering if you were alright with me "stealing" it.
I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of anyone and I think that the link is really useful for keeping to date with what I've done so far on Simple Wiki, are you alright with me posting it on my userpage?
If not, just say and I'll take it off.
Thanks
Gwib 12:49, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

As far as I am concerned no problem. To be honest, I've taken it from a Simple English Wikipedia page myself, as I assumed it was public domain. --Cethegus 13:46, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Brilliant, thanks and thanks for the quick reply

WikiScript change

Thanks for all the links you put on the Cuban Missile Crisis page, They give me an idea of what to put on any other pages. But what did you mean when you said that I could get the effects of html-script by other means? Is there a place where I can get maybe a list of other actionscript? Gwib 14:49, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

You had:

But Castro had to become a Communist.
The reasons that Krushchev wanted to help Cuba were the following:

• He wanted a Communist state close to America
• He wanted to test the new president John F Kennedy
• He wanted a chance to negotiate to get the American missile sites off of Turkey

Same effect with:

But Castro had to become a Communist.

The reasons that Krushchev wanted to help Cuba were the following:

  • He wanted a Communist state close to America
  • He wanted to test the new president John F. Kennedy
  • He wanted a chance to negotiate to get the American missile sites off of Turkey

If articles of Simple Wikipedia should be printed, all sorts of html-code that do not belong to the Wiki-software had to be changed. Therefore no problem with <br> on talk pages, but if ever possible not in articles. (But I am not very experienced in these questions either. So you might ask Archer7.) --Cethegus 16:36, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

-sigh of relief- Thanks for that. I thought you meant I had to replace a whole bunch of actionscript on all the pages I've edited. I'll start making the changes now. Also, I've added more links to all my pages which should increase understanding of anything in the article or if extra info is needed.

Moved listing of shrubs change

Hello Cethegus. I have moved the listing of shrubs you added to Shrub to its own page List of shrubs. I have also linked both with a see also section. I hope this change is ok for you. --Eptalon 12:08, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Ok, fine! --Cethegus 13:40, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Names of large numbers change

Hello, I saw that you had Names of large numbers in your "Needing to be looked at again" list. There is also a page called Names for large numbers and I wanted to know if you think we should delete one of these pages before focusing efforts to add info to one of them. If so, which one?
Thanks,
Gwib-(talk)- 09:42, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for telling me! As Names for large numbers is simpler, it should be kept, but at least the interwikis, the additional other websites and Googolplex should be added there. - I'll be glad if you do it, if you don't sooner or later I'll look at it (a bit busy at the moment). --Cethegus 12:00, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
I've added some websites, interwiki links and some basic info on Googolplex. Thanks for the advice!
Gwib-(talk)- 17:03, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
My mistake, I thought interwiki links were words which, when clicked, linked to other articles on the same wiki. Sorry about that.
Gwib-(talk)- 18:33, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Warning change

An article or part of an article which you created was directly copied from English Wikipedia. Please do not copy articles from there because they are usually too complicated and can use templates which do not exist here. Thank you.

Billz (Talk) 21:20, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

I know that there are these dangers and try to avoid them. Please tell me, in which case I was not successful. --Cethegus 21:44, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
As the warning came immediately after Billz deleted the page "Seperator", I think that was the page he was referring to. While the page was not an copy/paste of the entire article, it was a direct copy of a portion of it which had not been simplified including a mention to something being covered later in the article (the symbol for the seperator) which wasn't included in the article. I don't beleive the warning was correct as he deleted/warned within 2 minutes and did not give a chance for any simplification, but I can sort of understand how it could be seen in the way he saw it. -- Creol(talk) 22:05, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
A great deal of the articles which you have 'created' are direct copies of sections from EN Wikipedia. Although it does help by introducing new articles, they are far too complicated and create a lot of work for other contributors, which could be better spent creating fresh new articles. I will assess your other articles, but please be aware they may be deleted without warning if they are too complicated or direct copies. Billz (Talk) 22:14, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you Creol, but in the case of "Seperator" it was right of Billz to delete it immediately, because a wrong spelling should not be lemma of an article. @Billz: I am totally happy if you delete articles "without warning if they are too complicated or direct copies", if you allow five minutes or so. (Sometimes, I do hope not often, I save a page during the working process, even if it is totally incomplete to save work done when I have to look at other information and could get confused when returning. But as that is seldom I could live with it when these savings would be deleted.) --Cethegus 05:35, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Fertile and Fertility change

Hi, I just got your note about the page I created. Thanks for letting me know. I created it because it was listed on the basic English alphabetical wordlist. But what you said about adjectives makes sense. --Henitsirk 00:14, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Trigonometric function change

I made it a redirect. googl t 17:54, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

It's nice to take much of my article. But your lemma was better. I was wrong when I created an article with the plural as lemma. Therefore I changed article and redirect. --Cethegus 20:11, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Check User voting change

With the ongoing situation of vandals and their sock puppets disrupting Simple English wikipedia, a discussion has been going on about selecting users here to act as Check Users to help identify the people who are causing the problems and take actions to try and prevent them from causing more. For any wiki to allowed to have users with Check User ability, that wiki must vote on users and come up with a 70-80% approval with 25-30 votes. Simple has a small community of dedicated users, so we need all of us as a group to come together to make this happen. Many of our editors are not entirely interested in what goes on behind the scenes here, they are here just to create good articles. There is nothing at all wrong with this, but at this point in time we need each editor to take just a few seconds and visit the Requests for Adminship page and cast their vote for any or all people who they are comfortable with giving Check User access to. Each wiki needs two members who are accepted by the community to hold this position to help fight vandalism on the wiki.

If you have any questions about what a Check User is or what their job is, please feel free to ask any of the admins (or look at the information on Check User on Meta.wikipedia.org), but please take a moment and voice your opinion in the votes to help us deal with this ongoing situation. -- Creol(talk) 07:49, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Ich looked at CheckUser and shall look at "Requests for Adminship" --Cethegus 19:34, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
