My Talk Page

Welcome!

Hello, Gwib/Archive one, and welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! I hope you will be happy helping here. You should begin by reading these pages: Wikipedia:Useful, Help:Contents, Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines, and how to write Simple English articles. If you want some ideas of which pages to work on, read Wikipedia:Requested articles or the list of wanted pages.

Even though it is a good idea to research an article (like looking at the discussion page) before making large changes, please be bold and try! Any changes you make that are not perfect can be fixed later. We are also working most on core articles and the most common topics until this Wikipedia grows.

If you want to ask a question or talk with other members, you can visit our version of the "village pump" at Wikipedia:Simple talk. Administrators on Wikipedia can also help you with more difficult problems. You can also ask me for help. The best way to do that is to leave a message on my talk page. You should always sign your messages on Talk pages by typing "~~~~" (four tildes) at the end of your words.

Good luck and happy editing! --Isis§(talk) 17:40, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

re: Another question

Hello. About your question: I, and most other users I'm sure, user English wikipedia as a starting point for articles. I like to copy the basic and most important information first, simplify it, and add more details later on. It is not a good idea to copy the whole article from english wikipedia at one time, though, mainly due to the fact that it would take a very long time to simplify the whole thing at once. Also keep in mind that english wikipedia has templates that this wikipedia doesn't, and the same goes for images. Hope this helps, --Isis§(talk) 20:23, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Your question

Those are called interwiki links and they aren't exactly hidden. They show up on the side of the page under the heading "In other languages". The easiest way I have found to add them is to keep another window open to English Wikipedia and copy and paste the interwiki links here. Then I add en:Article name to the list in the correct alphabetical spot. That also makes it quite easy to add simple:Article name to the interwiki list on English Wikipedia. I would definitely encourage you to add the interwiki links to your articles (and any other articles) if you like. I consider them to be a very important part of every article. Hope this helps! · Tygartl1·talk· 02:16, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Maybe you would try to set some more links (as I have started to do). And please do not use html-code like <br> where you can get the effect by other means. I'm short of time as I'll be off for a week or so soon, but if you would like to contact me then please do so. --Cethegus 14:18, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Signature

Hello! I was wondering...do you want to know how to make your signature automatic? If so, follow these directions:

 • Go to "My settings" at the top of the screen (next to "my talk" and "my watchlist").
 • In that box labeled "nickname", type out your signature source code. This should work for this (but the colors will be slightly different):
<font face="Ariel"><b><font color="#770044">Gwib</font></b><small>-(<font color="#770044">talk</font>)-</small></font>

It will appear like this:Gwib-(talk)-

 • Check the box that says "Raw signatures"
 • Save the changes!

While working it out, I was unable to get the colors the same. If you want your signature to appear the way it is, just keep the subpage. It's a very nice signature. :) --Isis§(talk) 22:35, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Main Page

They are NOT way too thick. I like thick borders, any way, what so distracting 'bout them, mate ? LIAM !

DO NOT compare mine to that mess. Mine has integrity, and I have read before in a design book that thick borders are more user-friendly. MINE does not look like a kids website, and I have a colour theme throughout. I don't put purple against blue links. To compare mine to that TRASH is embarrassing. LIAM !

VG Article

Hello, Gwib. Welcome to Simple English Wikipedia. I think it is important to have motivated editors, like you. Sometime, one just gets fascinated by a subject. The result may then be an article in Simple Wikipedia. In your case, this seems to be Jimi Hendrix. In my case, such articles were Cider, Condom, Algorithm or Berlin Wall (A full list is on my user page). I did not start any of them, but made many changes to them. I therefore very much hope, that the rest of the community also sees your efforts, and that Jimi Hendrix can become one of the featured articles very soon. --Eptalon 08:10, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Test Main Page

"...for a short period of time, Zaha Hadid designed web pages.......'I learened borders were very important', she says, 'the thicker the better. Usually about 3 pixels works. any thicker, distracting. Any thinner, the page appears to have no borders......(the interview continues)" LIAM !

Substituting warning templates

Hi Gwib, please substitute warning templates. You do this so it looks like this: This is done so if someone goes back in later and changes the template, the change doesn't occur everywhere, if that makes sense. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks -  BrownE34  talk  contribs  21:28, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

I think it's just more time efficient. I just use the hyphen on mine, and I built that into my signature so I don't have to type it. There's no rule that says you can't use the break, others probably don't do so because of the extra spacing. Any template on a user talk page should be substituted. -  BrownE34  talk  contribs  21:44, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

I like a little humor in the edit summaries as long as it doesn't get carried away. When I was editing the new changes on the sexual intercourse page, I too saw that a better word was needed, and you beat me in the change. The user who is currently marking up that page is coming close to some warning on point of view pushing, but I don't think its an issue quite yet. -  BrownE34  talk  contribs  16:06, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Sexual intercourse

I would tend to agree with you and would encourage you to rework the page. I can't commit myself to doing a rewrite of it, but I agree that it needs it. -  BrownE34  talk  contribs  16:46, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Chocolate!

I want some, dear Florian! Do share some of that! ;) (Nice to meet you, by the way!) Have a beautiful weekend, Phaedriel - 09:47, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Yo, you're good yo!

Hey... you thief! You stole my list and started working on it! kidding Let's do it like this: You start from the top, I from the bottom. When we meet each other, I'll refresh the list.

Thanks, - Huji reply 12:06, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

PS: The title of the topic comes from .

You said "...if it means anything...". To me, it means you are an attentive user. - Huji reply 12:15, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
That's great work, you two! :) Just one thing: you seem to be taking the interwikis from EnWP, but you're forgetting to do two important things:
 1. add the proper en:article interwiki to our entry, and
 2. add the proper simple:article interwiki to the EnWP one.
You go, guys! I'll try and help out a little in a while. Have a great weekend! :) Phaedriel - 12:19, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

I just pick the En WP interwiki and save it. Then I use my bot to find all other interwikis. This way, even those that are not listed on En WP will be added too.

In order to make my bot add a backlink to En WP, I need to ask for permission there too. I haven't done so yet. - Huji reply 13:13, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Gwib, just add interwikis to En and add the back link to English Wikipedia too. Leave the rest to be done by User:HujiBot. - Huji reply 13:20, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

You need to pay more attention

Hi again. Here you added an interwiki to Simple English Wikipedia itself (because you copy-n-pasted from En WP). I removed it, and thought you need to be informed. Best, - Huji reply 14:11, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Update

Please keep me updated about your progress with the articles I've listed there. I didn't have time to check it myself, thourgh you contribs. - Huji reply 17:03, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

 1. I can refresh it, however, as I think I've told you before, I'm going to tell my bot to pass through them all. There is a possibility of finding interwikis which are not on En WP.
 2. Regarding the disambig pages, the bot is wise enough about that too. It can make interwikis to pages only if they are disambigs too.
 3. Regarding what you've already done, I would be grateful if you could mark them for me on the list we already have. Strike the ones which you are finished with, make those which you couldn't do as bold and leave the rest as are.
I'm going to have a trip and may not return to wiki any sooner than Saturday. Hopefully, you can do the best part while I'm away. Then, I will run the bot, and then we will refresh the list.
Something else, I think it would be a good idea to keep all the discussion on one page. From now on, when we create a topic on each other's talk pages the rest of the discussion will take place on that same page, ok?
I don't know how to thank you. You're spending some time on the data I gathered, which worths much more than the gathering of the list. - Huji reply 18:04, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Will do! Consider each page perviously done as striken through and ones to come as the same. I hope you have a great time on your trip, bring me back something nice! Kidding :)

Regarding your message to (the now temporarily blocked) Ionas68224, Kimberly Ashton was blocked for far more than just the personal information :) She had masses of vandal sockpuppets. Zaha Hadid

She won the PRITZKER PRIZE. First woman to ever get it. Did you know, Yoko Ono is actually a very good visual artist? And it wasn't in a mag, it was in the Times ! She has designed many important buildings, and the only reason simple doesn't have an article on her is because the admins. only focus on the "most important topics" ! She doesn't have a famous father, she is from Baghdad !

Message

I left a message on your NV Wiki talk page, while I was blocked:

"Gwib, about the Lizix block:

I am currently blocked (not as a Kimberly Ashton sockpuppet, just for 3 days), so I have to respond to you here @ nevdawiki. I also found out Zoey was blocked. I do not think Zoey was a sock, and why was Lizix blocked if she was not an abusive sockpuppet? Also, on Wikipedia Review someone brought up a checkuser on me at Simplewiki. Pardon me, but I thought you had to be notified for a checkuser. Apparently, not so. I found out that even though the King's not on simple., Jim still owns the place. I came there to escape from Jimbo. Also, with the above post linked to, my essay about Wikipedia (that I copied to Simple. from here) was deleted and censored, followed by a corresponding note on my talk page:

"I have now deleted your essay on Wikipedia (User:Ionas68224/Wikipedia). I can see where you are coming from, and you should be able to talk about Wikipedia's problems, but saying things like that is not acceptable and you know it. Please remember that although this is a community website, it is not our website. The Wikimedia Foundation and Jimbo Wales control it absolutely (and so they should in my opinion). Wikipedia is not a democracy, it never will be, and it never should be. A project like this simply wouldn't work. This is not your website, it is a website owned, operated and controlled by the Wikimedia Foundation, not the community. If you write a message in one of my notebooks for example, I have the right to get rid of it if I don't like it, and your free speech rights do not apply - you wrote it on my stuff.

Insulting Jimbo Wales isn't going to get you anywhere, it will just get you blocked. You mention that admins that abuse their powers should be blocked - I've blocked an admin before, and I know of it happening many times on EN.

You have sent abusive emails to administrators on the English Wikipedia, and you have posted this here for the same reason - because you think you can get away with it. I notice that you didn't post it on EN. You have caused disruption both on here and on EN. This has got to stop right now. This is your only warning before blocking, any further disruption and that's it.

Wikimedia projects work together very closely, and I know of your activities on EN. I have tried to be patient with you and see if you can work here without similar problems where other projects would have simply blocked you, but this is not right. You know this is not acceptable, and you've done it anyway. Archer7 - talk 22:11, 16 August 2007 (UTC)"

I was later blocked for 3 days. Also, the thing that I did on here to show my feelings on online censorship (for minors, majors, elitists, and otherwise) I also did on there, and Browne34 removed "Fucking Censorship Cabal" as "offensive content". No freedom of speech in this day and age. Just to keep you "up" on what's happening. Idaltonrand 11:13, 18 August 2007 (CDT)"

I also noticed you were not active in a few days. While it is bad to see you leave (You are currently the only other user on there), if you are leaving please tell others about it. I am currently in stressful times having accounts on over 7 wikis, and I recently founded another wiki, Encyclopædia Phonetica, which has no other users and no articles. If you or any other person wants to join (same admin policies as NVwiki), please spread the news of it. I need more people to join. And, at enwiki, (I am blocked), notify Aeusoes1, who is in phonetics. Thank you, ionas talk contribs 05:08, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

(and congratulations in advance for your first VG article - great work! :) Love, Phaedriel - 09:37, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

zaha hadid: the not-so conservative truth

The first woman to win the Pritzker Prize for Architecture in its 26 year history, ZAHA HADID (1950-) has defined a radically new approach to architecture by creating buildings, such as the Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati, with multiple perspective points and fragmented geometry to evoke the chaos of modern life. (SOURCE)

zaha hadid first achieved a high degree of international recognition with her 1983 competition entry for the peak, a leisure and recreational center in hong kong. she subsequently won first prize in a succession of competitions, but for some years only minor projects and exhibition designs were actually executed. winning designs include a residential development on the kurfürstendamm, berlin (1986), originally designed by hadid for the 'internationale bauausstellung' in berlin in 1986. düsseldorf art and media centre (1992/93), cardiff bay opera house, wales (1994), thames water / royal academy habitable bridge competition (1996), the commission to design the contemporary arts center in cincinnati, ohio, was awarded to hadid in 1998, also the university of north london holloway road bridge (1998), and shortly afterwards she was chosen to design the centro per l’arte contemporanea in rome (1999), the bergisl ski-jump in innsbruck, austria (1999), and the science centre in wolfsburg, germany (2000).

(SOURCE)

The Iraqi-born, London-based Hadid has become the most famous female architect in the world.

(SOURCE)

Women traditionally don't rise to the top in architecture - not on an international level. Not in the stratosphere where Zaha now exotically moves, where a handful of global superstar architects is constantly airborne like some design equivalent of a nuclear deterrent. Women don't get invited into that club. And as for a notoriously short-fused, allegedly tyrannical, hugely imaginative and sometimes sweetly charming woman from Baghdad of all places - no, that script would be turned down by Hollywood as just too inherently implausible. Besides, no actor on earth could play the mercurial Zaha.

And yet here I am, talking to the world's most famous female architect

(SOURCE)

she has now won the 2004 Pritzker Architecture Prize, the equivalent of a Nobel Prize and most prestigious architecture award in the world. The first female architect of global standing, Hadid will also be the first female Pritzker laureate ever

(SOURCE)

The Pritzker Price winner Zaha Hadid is famous for her bold designs, and her status as a ‚specialist in the spectacular’ is well-deserved. The designs created by the renowned architect, a native of Iraq who has lived in London since the late 1970s, are visions of the future.

Re: Freedom of Speech

I noticed your comments on a talk page about a man who was arrested and prosecuted for publicly shouting racist slogans, and tried to defend his actions as "exercising his freedom of speech", and that you supported his defense. I hate to burst your bubble, but inflammatory speech is not protected by the US Constitution. (Neither are libel or slander, for that matter.) This is a point many young people (and many undereducated people) do not understand; freedom of speech does NOT mean one can say whatever one pleases without fear of legal (or other) retribution. Please read the Wikipedia article on Imminent lawless action for more information... and think about what you say before you say it. Especially if you visit the US. Zephyrad 07:11, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

One day, it will...
P.S. As far as "being a racist" goes... nobody said you were. (And where is Mammoth?) Zephyrad 18:21, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
