Happy holidays! change

Happy holidays! Appreciate the work you've done on here so far. Keep it up! Mwiqdoh (talk) 23:42, 23 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Mwiqdoh: I'm sorry about not responding here for so long, but I've been editing a lot at enwiki, so yeah. Thank you for wishing me happy holidays (you too!)
Oh, and for the account thing, I figured a way around it: Both of the IPs I've been assigned to since I moved are in the range "67.183.136.0/22" (Click the link, it's just a wikilink, so it can't be malicious!), though I used to have a neighbor who was editing during the summer this year (she told me about editing), who was also in that IP range. Though, I did make an account, but I'm only using it for:
  • Editing "semi-protected" pages.
  • Moving pages.
  • Creating pages in certain namespaces.
  • Editing from my soft-blocked school network.
  • Just in case this is revived and gets implemented.
  • Becoming an admin, if someone ever thinks I'm worthy of it, though it'll be forever until that happens...
  • As a place to put hashed text (called a "commitment"), so that a new IP of mine can reveal the original text and thus verify that it is me.

I'll admit that I am on the fence about whether or not to actually use an account all the time. Things that piss me off about account editing are lack of openness, having to log in, being able to be accused of permission gaming, having your contribs scrutinized by others, etc, etc. (Don't think I don't read through RfA archives, probably the main editor-reviewing location on Wikipedia!) --67.183.136.85 (talk) 03:40, 29 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I've also been editing on en.wiki as I really don't know which wiki to edit at this point. I think creating an account would help a lot since an IP has many downsides. And don't worry, m:Anonymous users should not be allowed to edit articles is likely never going to be implemented. Have a good day! Mwiqdoh (talk) 04:34, 29 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Mwiqdoh: A few things:
  • Yes, I know that the "anons can't edit" thing probably won't be implemented.
  • Using a legitimate but not-so-alternative account sort of seems to get rid of most of the downsides of IP editing (the "autoconfirmed only" stuff, mainly). As for the watchlist, from what I've heard, pages you create are automatically added. So, I probably then have to repeatedly de-watchlist the large number of user-talk pages (mostly those of vandals) I create.
  • Apparently, I enjoy using bulleted lists. --67.183.136.85 (talk) 22:27, 29 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
There is a way to stop pages you edit to automatically be added to your watchlist but it can't be enabled on mobile (or at least I think). Unfortunately, I'm currently on a mobile device and do not remember how to enable that. I'll let you know as soon as possible!

I finally found my damned laptop. Here's how you change what's added on your watchlist:
1. Go to My settings (On the top-right corner, in between Talk and Beta).
2. Click Watchlist (On the top in between New changes and Gadgets).
3. Scroll down to Watched pages.
4. Check the boxes that you'd like.

@Mwiqdoh: Got it! Though, this conversation is getting pretty long. Let me outdent. --67.183.136.85 (talk) 17:51, 3 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
