Please remember to sign when you leave messagesEdit

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! Just in case you didn't know, when you post messages on talkpages and Wikipedia pages, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ("~~~~") at the end of your message. You can also click on the signature button (  or  ), located in the edit toolbar, which is above the change window. This will put a signature containing your user name or IP address and the time you posted the message. This information is useful because other users will be able to tell who said what, and when. Pages that may require a signature, such as User talk:Neotarf/Red links, Talk:Josip Broz Tito, Talk:Bonsai. Thank you for your participation. --Cewbot (talk) 05:56, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

Bad bot. Go sit in the corner and stop annoying people with incorrect warningsB. --Creol(talk) 06:18, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

Just an FYIEdit

That article you requested G6 for was originally deleted, it was just recreated recently :) --Ferien (talk) 15:33, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

I just tagged it as it was causing an error entry tracked on my user page. But.. they recreated it with the RfD tag targeting the del discussion on it? That's a whole new level of smart there. --Creol(talk) 15:38, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

ReferencesEdit

I wonder if it is worth changing references if 1) the link is working, and 2) the reference is sound. In general, I do not use the En wiki reference system in full because I think it is too complex for our kind of reader. I mean by this, it is one thing if you have graduated from a PhD course, and another thing if you are a 15-year-old schoolkid. Macdonald-ross (talk) 11:18, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

Mostly, Im dealing with the refs showing errors. This can be as petty as the wrong date format which really is just an esthetics and machine readable issue to sources attributed to "facebook, Twritter, Instagram, print, copy" to wrong title ("Archived Copy") to completely unformatted or bare URLs pr even completely missing refs (named but undefined) . The lower end really just affects the look of the pages and not the usage (except for machine readability) while the upper end can make the refs fairly useless and just help link rot. I am also replacing decent number of dead links that either the bots couldn't replace or didn't even know were dead, These refs were totally useless and in some cases have been sitting there for over a decade. One of the next groups Ill hoping to get to will be the archive status which most editors have not clue what its for so they use it wrong and make it harder to locate when a bot is signaling for help from an editor.
Overall, its all a combination of look, usefulness, improvement and sustainability. To be fair, I really doubt most users even care about the refs. They are here to find the info, not to see who validates that info. The refs are mostly for the nay=sayers and the less ammo they because of a shoddy system, the better over all. --Creol(talk) 16:21, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

QD request for Heat death of the universeEdit

Hi, sorry to bother you, but I think an article like Heat death of the universe should not be deleted. I don't think this article has "little or no meaning": it gives a brief explanation, which is a stub and can be expanded. I think the IP editor Special:Contributions/71.1.11.110 is being quite helpful by writing all these articles about important, missing topics. Even if they're short, that's not necessarily a bad thing; they get the point across. Lights and freedom (talk) 05:48, 7 May 2022 (UTC)

In its current state, with the first sentence being wrong (not the end of the universe) and the other being iffy (is end of Thermodynamic free energy the same as end of thermodynamics?) there is little there worth keeping as it is now. It provides no useful info and creates more work for others. I have already scrapped one of their articles by completely redoing everything about it. Somethimes its just best to say no more. There is plenty of info on the topic on En to use for a basis for a real stub on the topic. Feel free to create one. --Creol(talk) 07:16, 7 May 2022 (UTC)

Sir please redirect VESIGN To THE VESIGNEdit

Sir please redirect VESIGN To THE VESIGN 2409:4051:184:D24E:0:0:2596:40A4 (talk) 02:01, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

I tried but certain users want to keep it incorrect and they revert any changes to redirect it. There should only be one page on the topic and variant names should redirect to it. "Should" but as an admin has chosen to keep it in the broken form that it is in, there is nothing I can do. Edit warring and POV pushing are against policy (apparently unless you are an admin then you can dictate at your whim) --Creol(talk) 02:18, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Dr. Dre page editsEdit

When trying to revert some IP edits, there were several change conflicts. It's hard to revert Dr. Dre back to pre--vandalism state at this important point. Can somebody help me? Angela Kate Maureen Pears 04:03, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Looking at the history, it appears only one edit haa not been reverted from my last edit there. As that edit is highly suspect (the other edit from that person was reverted and it gives an AKA birth name...), I would suggest reverting it all back to the last good, which happens to be a revert to my last edit. To be honest though, I can't be certain everything in that version was correct to start with. Ther could have been vandalism hiding in it. --Creol(talk) 04:46, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Horror film on English WikipediaEdit

Dear Creol if you're on English Wikipedia can you restore the 2010s section and the 2020s section for the article horror film on English Wikipedia? Treker250 (talk) 19:08, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

.....no Derpdart56 (talk) 19:10, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

Why not? Treker250 (talk) 19:13, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

Do you have anything to do with literally every other guy that tried to get people to do this? Derpdart56 (talk) 19:20, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Indeed they do. Feel free to remove this, Creol. As you probably know, they are just messaging everyone in the hope someone will fall and make the edit on en for them when they are blocked there. --Ferien (talk) 19:49, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
I figured. Derpdart56 (talk) 19:57, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

Helping with a research project in SimplificationEdit

Hello Creol,

I'm reaching out to you because I am working on a research project on simplification and am looking to collaborate with domain experts.

A quick introduction: I am a researcher interested in text simplification and am working towards publishing a resource in text simplification based on Simple Wikipedia (quite a rich encyclopedia). We believe this resource, which we will make public, could be valuable to educate and increasing awareness of text simplification.

Some colleagues and I are looking to collaborate with domain experts in the creation of the resource. We've secured some budget for our research project, so there's the possibility to remunerate a few experts that would work with us.

I do not mean to spam you, so feel free to disregard/delete if you feel this is inappropriate (and I apologize). On the other hand, if you are interested, please feel free to reach out, either directly on Wikipedia or by email (phillab@berkeley.edu) and I would be happy to tell you more.

Thank you, and sorry again if you feel this is inappropriate,

Philippe Laban
