Your article Buryatia submitted for Wikipedia Asian Month change

Hello, Greateasterner. Thanks for submitting the article Buryatia for Wikipedia Asian Month. I haven't had a chance to review it for all the requirements yet, but I do notice that the language isn't all simple, as required by the rules.. One specific thing is that some sentences contain multiple things that should be in separate sentences. For example, the second sentence in the article should be divided into two or three shorter ones.

Rather than just reject the article, I wanted to give you a chance to take care of this issue first. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'm pinging the other coordinator to keep them in the loop. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:44, 11 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Agree mostly with Auntof6 here. Otherwise the article is well referenced and well formatted - you have until the end of December to improve on the article, don't stress at all. Hiàn (talk) 01:51, 11 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hello organizers of Wikipedia Asian Month! Thank you very much for your feedback! I have worked on the article and I hope you could take some time to see if it fits the requirement now. Can I also ask regarding other language wiki Asian Month, if my article has been rejected is it possible to still ask them to review it to accept it when I have make edits to the article? Greateasterner (talk) 17:10, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I don't know if it's possible to "un-reject" an article (that's why I left a message here instead of rejecting), but I hope they'd be willing to. I think you'd have to ask the coordinators at the other project. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:17, 12 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hello Auntof6, I realized that my article has been rejected from Wikipedia Asian Month, the reason stated was "accidentally accepted wrong article", could you kindly explain the reason it was rejected. Greateasterner (talk) 05:35, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, Greateasterner. I made a mistake when I was processing articles. Your article has not been rejected, just un-accepted, due to an error on my part. I meant to accept an article from Hiàn, but I clicked the wrong thing. I haven't yet gone back to look at your article again. Is it ready to be looked at again? Again, I apologize for the mistake. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:37, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hello Auntof6, thank you for the clarification. Yes, the article has been edited and made ready to be reviewed again. Feel free to let me know if the article falls short of the requirement again. No worries about the mistake made and thank you for taking time to review the article again. Greateasterner (talk) 06:55, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I'm looking at the article now. It could still use some simplifying. It also needs some copy editing, for example for subject-verb agreement and some other things. I could fix some of it if you want, but I'm not sure what parts of it are supposed to say. Would you like me to fix the parts I can, and ask you about the other things? --Auntof6 (talk) 07:21, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hello, thanks for the offer. You could help with the editing of the article. But if you are busy, please don't burden yourself. Maybe you could highlight here which are the parts that are really problematic and I can work on it. Can I also clarify if a word or concept is difficult, is there a need to explain if there is a link to an article to explain it? Greateasterner (talk) 09:25, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Here are some sentences you could clarify:
  • "In the past, Buryatia was linked to the Mongols, and have been part of their rule." -- not sure what this is saying, also the verb doesn't seem to agree with the subject
  • "For example during the Xiongnu Empire (209 BC-93 CE), Kublai Khan's Mongol Empire (1206-1368) as well as the Northern Yuan Empire (1368-1691)." -- doesn't seem to have a verb
I'll look at it some more later: right now it's time for me to get some sleep. --Auntof6 (talk) 10:57, 13 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hello, are the sentences "In the past, the Buryats were related to the Mongols, and had been part of their rule." and "The Xiongnu Empire (209 BC-93 CE), Kublai Khan's Mongol Empire (1206-1368) and the Northern Yuan Empire (1368-1691), were examples when the Buryats were ruled by the Mongols." more clearer in conveying the meaning? Are there other areas in which I can work on? Thanks for your help! Greateasterner (talk) 18:30, 18 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Asian Month submissions change

Hi Greateasterner. I haven't accepted any of your submissions for Wikipedia Asian Month yet - the language used in the articles right now isn't simple enough. Please feel free to continue working on the articles until 6 December, that's when the all articles must be judged. I'll be updating you if your articles are accepted in the end. Cheers, Hiàn (talk) 21:49, 3 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello Hian, I am not clear how simple must an article be so I have edited the Buryatia article to make it as simple as I can. Please take a look and comment if this is the standard that the rest of the articles should be written with. Thank you for your time! Greateasterner (talk) 09:00, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
I'll let Hiàn say what they think, but I think some of the sentences could still be divided. For example, "The Head of Buryatia is the leader of the republic and is chosen by public vote every five years" could be changed to "The Head of Buryatia is the leader of the republic. The Head is chosen by public vote every five years."
I see that you changed "Buryatia was linked to the Mongols" to "the Buryats were related to the Mongols". Are you sure that's what was meant? I read the original as meaning linked through trade or proximity or something like that. If it meant related to, why would that sentence say they were related in the past? If they were related in the padt, wouldn't they still be related now? --Auntof6 (talk) 10:30, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hello Auntof6, yes actually the first meaning of Buryats were linked through trade and proximity to the Mongols was the intention. But the second meaning of being related holds too, because the Buryats have now become culturally distinct from the Mongols, even though they were culturally similar in the past. I will go edit accordingly in awhile to correct the confusion. Thanks for raising this up!! Greateasterner (talk) 15:21, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
I've simplified Buryatia further - I think it's ready to be accepted. Any thoughts, Auntof6? Do you think it's ready? Hiàn (talk) 20:38, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
I did a little more simplifying and fixed some grammar, and I think it's OK now. It could use some more links, but that's not a barrier to being accepted for WAM. I just tried to accept it, but wasn't able to on my tablet. If you can do it before I'm able to get on my laptop, please go ahead. --Auntof6 (talk) 21:41, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
I've accepted Buryatia and rejected the rest. Please don't be discouraged, you can always try again in future events. Cheers, Hiàn (talk) 01:02, 7 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yes, thank you for submitting articles at all. The last two years, I intended to but didn't get my act together. :) --Auntof6 (talk) 02:18, 7 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
