In general any "forever" block is "indefinite" not "permanent". If you would like to edit again chances are always available though generally at least a short time being away (and not trying to get around the block etc) and then coming back and politely asking to be unblocked with apologies or an understanding of the problem is possible and would be discussed at the time. I don't see why this was needed. Brian is an experienced editor, who knows what he is doing; forgetting to warn once isn't something he needs to be warned about.
