Heh, yeah, sorry I saw you editing yesterday but was too busy at the time to welcome you. Have fun!   Osiris (talk) 15:22, 10 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yep, I'll shrink my activities in the German WP to be more active here. – weltforce | Talk 16:41, 10 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Attribution change

Hey. So, now that you're a patroller, please take a quick look through Wikipedia:How to copy from another Wikipedia. That way, if you base any new content on material from another Wikipedia, you know how to give attribution to the original authors. See for example what I did here, because I originally took my material from the English Wikipedia before I simplified it. Same if you're translating stuff from the German Wikipedia, see an example for that here.

All the best, Osiris (talk) 15:08, 12 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, thanks. Read it now. – weltforce | Talk 15:15, 12 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

InterProject change

Hey. Where did you get this template from? I know it's German since the coding contains German words, but can you give me a specific link to the title? Thanks, Osiris (talk) 12:08, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Here you go. --weltforce 12:10, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ah, a "K"!! Thanks! Osiris (talk) 12:12, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I first created it here with a "k" too, then someone moved it to the correct position. --weltforce 12:23, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hm.. does it work though? It works over there, but doesn't seem to work here...? Osiris (talk) 12:26, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm still working on it. Hold on! --weltforce 14:25, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Osiris, the template needs additional JavaScript code on MediaWiki:common.js, can you add it?

mw.loader.using( [ 'mediawiki.util' ], function() { jQuery( document ).ready(function() {
    var iProject = document.getElementById("interProject");
    if(!iProject) return;
    var sistersibling = document.getElementById("p-lang");
    if(!sistersibling) sistersibling= document.getElementById("p-tb");
    if(!sistersibling) return;
    var sisterparent = sistersibling.parentNode;
    var sisterprojectnav = document.createElement("div");
    sisterprojectnav.id = "p-sisterprojects";
    sisterprojectnav.className = sistersibling.className
    sisterprojectnav.innerHTML = '<h5>'+document.getElementById("sisterProjects").firstChild.innerHTML+'</h5><div><ul></ul></div>';
    var sistersiblingsub = sistersibling.getElementsByTagName("div")[0];
    if(sistersiblingsub){
        sisterprojectnav.childNodes[1].className = sistersiblingsub.className;
    } else {
        sisterprojectnav.childNodes[1].className = "pBody";
    }
    var sisternext = document.getElementById("p-lang");
    if ( sisternext && sisternext.parentNode == sisterparent ){
        sisterparent.insertBefore( sisterprojectnav, sisternext );
    }else{
        sisterparent.appendChild(sisterprojectnav);
    }
    var sisterlinks = iProject.getElementsByTagName("a");
    for (var i = 0; i < sisterlinks.length; i++) {
        var sistername = sisterlinks[i].firstChild.nodeValue
        mw.util.addPortletLink('p-sisterprojects', sisterlinks[i].getAttribute("href") + '?uselang=' + mw.config.get( 'wgUserLanguage' ), sistername, "sister-"+ sistername, sistername);
    }
})});

Okay, give me a sec and I'll have a look. Osiris (talk) 14:43, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
To be honest, Weltforce, I'm too hesitant to add that in there, since I've really not enough experience to know what it's going to do. You could ask on WP:ST for someone who knows JavaScript to look into it... Osiris (talk) 15:19, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I'll finish the code and then add a request. --weltforce 20:35, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Finished. I've send a request here: Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard --weltforce 09:29, 20 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the lack of response on this. Most of our admins also have responsibilities elsewhere, so you might get a quicker response by going directly to someone's talk page. I'm not really sure who to call an expert at javascript.. Pmlineditor and Barras have the most MW edits, so maybe start with one of them. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Austritt aus der deutschen Wikipedia change

Hallo Weltforce!

Culture stubs change

Was this stub category discussed? We keep the number of stub types to a minimum, and any new types need to be discussed at the project page before being created. --Auntof6 (talk) 16:39, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Oops, sorry, I'll do that next time. But I thought a culture stub would be useful. --weltforce (talk) 16:40, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
It's OK. A lot of new users do this same thing. To get a feel for how we manage stubs here, you can look at Wikipedia talk:Simple Stub Project and its archives.
I will do that. Thanks! --weltforce (talk) 13:09, 11 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Quick deletion of Template:Culture-stub change

The page you wrote, Template:Culture-stub, has been selected for quick deletion. This is because the page was deprecated or replaced by a newer template and are completely unused and not linked to. If you think this page should be kept, please add {{wait}} below the line {{QD}} and say why on the talk page. If the page is already gone, but you think this was an error, you can ask for it to be undeleted. Auntof6 (talk) 16:49, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Quick deletion of Template:Business-stub change

Please discuss before changing established templates change

I noticed that you redirected {{asbox}} to a new template you created. I understand your wanting to make things simpler. When you change things that are used a lot, please bring it up at WP:Simple talk first so people know what's going on and can comment. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 17:00, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ok, thanks for the notice! But I checked the template and saw that nobody was using it—a so-called "dead" template. But I will do that in future what you said. --weltforce (talk) 21:02, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
No one using it? Hmmm, I think I must have gotten it confused with {{ambox}}. Sorry about that! --Auntof6 (talk) 21:17, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
No problem! Thanks for your notice. --weltforce (talk) 21:34, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

QD change

Ahhhh its G11! I looked at WP:DP, saw it was 11th and put A11. Was confused as to why it didn't work! :) Kennedy (talk) 12:46, 11 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

:) You know WP:Twinkle? Really useful. --weltforce (talk) 12:47, 11 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I did use it before actually, but wasn't keen. I might try again though and see if I can get used to it. :) Kennedy (talk) 13:03, 11 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Twinkle is a peace of JavaScript masterpiece :) I really admire its creators. --weltforce (talk) 13:11, 11 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Verbs change

  • To admit = einlassen or zugeben. You mean admire (bewundern), I think?

Normally I wouldn't say anything but since you said it's one of the reasons you are editing here I thought you'd prefer I pointed it out.

Osiris (talk) 01:05, 12 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes... Sorry for my mistake, I'm still learning English and hope to improve my English here ;-) --weltforce (talk) 11:29, 12 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I saw that and knew what you meant. Your English is better than my German, as I'm sure Barras and Orashmatash will confirm... :P I've had my fair share of embarrassing moments in Germany attempting, and failing, to speak German. Kennedy (talk) 11:45, 12 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hatnotes, etc change

Hi Weltforce. I'm sorry, I had to undo your formatting changes to those hatnote templates... It removed the ability to stack the hatnote next to another table-based template like an infobox. Although hatnotes should always be the first thing on the page, there are many cases where it isn't, and your change meant that the hatnote would appear after an infobox rather than next to it (so there was a lot of whitespace). I'll try and run something up in my sandbox to show you what I mean. Osiris (talk) 02:22, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Here. Osiris (talk) 02:39, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I know what you mean. I've been thinking about using AWB or using a Bot to fix this. Anyway... --weltforce (talk) 06:36, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Quick deletion of TBD change

The page you wrote, TBD, has been selected for quick deletion. This is because the page was a page that had little or no meaning. If you think this page should be kept, please add {{wait}} below the line {{QD}} and say why on the talk page. If the page is already gone, but you think this was an error, you can ask for it to be undeleted. Auntof6 (talk) 01:32, 24 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Wait, how about moving it to SimpleWikt? --weltforce (talk) 02:09, 24 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Twinkle change

Thank you for the new gadget features! Your knowledge of JavaScript is far better than mine will ever be. I just did a bit of testing and there are a few glitches you might want to look into.

  • The first (shown in the image to the right) is in nominating subpages for deletion. Seems you might be using the pagename instead of the fullpagename or whatever.
  • A tiny thing you might want to know about is here. When the nomination page is empty we put {{none}} under current nominations. When it's filled we comment it out like &lt;!--&#123;{none}&#125;--&gt;. That might just be a minor annoyance though.
  • The stub tag button appears on every page, even RecentChanges. That's a pretty big one.   Fixed
  • There is something wrong with the resolution on my screen. I use a pretty low resolution because I'm on a notebook. The text in the dialogue boxes is too small to be able to read. The QD box is longer than my screen resolution, so you probably need to add a scroll feature.   Fixed

There might be some more issues, so I won't put it through on the MediaWiki page just yet. Osiris (talk) 04:54, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

One more thing I noticed: the stub tagger adds the tag to the very bottom of the page, even after interwikis. Osiris (talk) 06:42, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for you notice, Osiris! I now fixed the resolution problem. It was a problem caused by morebits.js and monobook. Stub seems not to be stable, so I put it out of the Twinkle package. I will took a look at it. RfA: I'll fix that, thanks! --weltforce (talk) 08:37, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I can't seem to get it to work. I've added the code, CTRL+F5'd and even closed and re-opened my browser. Its compatible with IE8? (don't laugh, works PC :P) Kennedy (talk) 12:10, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

It works definitely with Internet Explorer. But that is not the problem. Twinkle loads up Java Script with importScript and therefore all of these loaded elements may need cache reloading. Because CTRL+F5 only reloads the current page. It does not show up. You may try [CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[DEL] and choose to reset the entire browser cache. Hope that works :-) Cheers, weltforce (talk) 14:40, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I fixed stub tagging. It doesn't appear on special pages now :-). --weltforce (talk) 18:39, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Resolution looks good now. Is there anyway to restrict the stub tagging to just mainspace? Osiris (talk) 08:45, 26 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I'lll fix that. Thanks! --weltforce (talk) 09:25, 26 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello Osiris! Stub tagging is now limited to Namespace:0. To the RfD tool: I don't know where's the problem why Twinkle doesn't use the full page name. I took a further look into the tool and found wgPageName. So the tool can only be used on articles. Sorry... --weltforce (talk) 11:20, 26 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Awesome! Have you enabled the stub tagger? It's not appearing on any pages at the moment... I'm going to move some of my testing observations to that development page you started. On RFPP -- that's something I really don't think we're going to use so I wouldn't bother with it. It might be useful if we had an WP:RFPP page and requests were made on a regular basis, but they're not (I can't remember the last request for a page to be protected). Osiris (talk) 06:13, 27 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
How's that stub tagger coming? Not important if you're busy, but it was very handy when patrolling new pages. Osiris (talk) 06:10, 4 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
I'm currently inactive. Sorry, but I will finish the code as I'm coming back (I think July 30). Thanks for your patience, --weltforce (talk) 11:19, 7 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Oh no worries! Sorry, I missed the note on your userpage. Will talk about it when you get back. :) Osiris (talk) 04:39, 8 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

If you'd like help with that, let me know. Also, it is not required to have interwikis, so that isn't a reason for deletion. --Auntof6 (talk) 19:15, 26 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Dead links change

Sorry for giving you all that jargon about web archives. To explain, when specific URLs no longer exist, you can sometimes find snapshots of them archived on web services like archive.org or webcitation.org -- these sites use crawler software to browse the internet and archive webpages. If you can't find anything archived for the webpage you're missing, you'll need to replace the dead link with something else. It depends on the source, though: If it was a link to a digitised version of a written publication (like a journal or newspaper), you can just remove the dead URL. But if it was a website, you'll have to replace it with some other source.

Good to see you back, by the way. I hope you enjoyed your... holiday? Osiris (talk) 02:51, 1 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

  Hello. You have a new message at Osiris's talk page.

Open proxy change

Heya. Thought I'd let you know that one of the blocking templates used by Twinkle needs to be transcluded rather than substituted. The template is {{Openproxy}}, which I will likely move to the title {{Blocked proxy}} shortly. It also takes an entirely different set of parameters to the general templates. Is that solvable? It's not urgent -- it's always been transcluded by Twinkle, and it's seldom used. Osiris (talk) 14:26, 27 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

No problem, I will add it to set. And sorry that I wasn't finished during the week, this is costlier than I thought, but I will certainly finish it during the next days or weeks. All the best! --intforce.aka.weltforce 16:43, 27 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Generic level 4 user warning change

Is it okay that I redirected {{uw-generic4}} to {{uw-vandalism4}}? If not, you can just revert me. From the transclusions of {{user-warning set}}, it looks like {{uw-v4}} is used as the generic 4th-level warnings that other templates escalate to. I guess we could change it over if it's better that way... Thoughts? Osiris (talk) 12:19, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Wasn't uw-generic the template for issues for which no warning template exists? If not, I'll remove it from the Twinkle set. Is that ok? --intforce.aka.weltforce 14:20, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I didn't realise it was being used directly by the script, I thought it was just a target for redirects. If that's the case then, I'll just restore it so it can be used. Oopsies! Osiris (talk) 16:32, 30 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Testing modules change

The QD module worked perfectly. Testing the others now. Osiris (talk) 08:50, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Had some small problems with the batch deletion.

  • The first test (via category) deleted 3 out of 5 pages in the category. There was an error with the other 2 and I had to delete them separately.
  • The second test (via links on page) worked fine. I had also created a redirect to one of the pages to test the "delete redirects to deleted pages" feature. It worked, the redirect was deleted with the rest... the only possible issue with that was that the twinkle box stalled and stayed at 0% (I didn't know whether the redirect had been deleted until I checked RecentChanges). Everything worked in practice though.

Is it possible to set the "remove backlinks to the page" to default as unchecked for batch deletion?

The batch undelete worked fine, but there were error messages everywhere (take a look at the screencap). And the feature is only possible on user pages, is that right?

I can't access the batch protection. The button doesn't work... Osiris (talk) 09:33, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for testing it and make the screenshots!
  • Batch deletion:
    • You said that 2 page turned out an error. Is there an error message?
    • Oh yes, that stalling issue. The issue also happens sometimes on the RfD (resp. XfD) module, and the Twinkle developers said that it is a server issue that will occur sometimes.
    • "Remove backlinks to page" is now unchecked by default. You want me to set up a option in a preference panel?
  • Batch undelete:
    • As you may see, Twinkle.Batchundelete uses the script "legacyWiki" loaded by the morebits library. The Twinkle developers plan to remove legacyWiki and update the batchundelete script, but this has not happened yet (see en:MediaWiki:Gadget-morebits.js). This message shall therefore be added on every undeletion request. And yes, this script is only enabled on user pages (but if you want me to enable it on any other namespace, just tell me):

Oops! Thanks. I can't remember the error message from the batch delete; if it comes up again, I'll bring it to your attention. About the option to check removing backlinks... you can set up a preferences option to check it by default if you want, but personally I think it would be quite dangerous to have the item checked (depending on the number of pages being deleted).
I haven't tested things yet, but I'm assuming you did most of it yourself. One thing: can we relocate testing here to the regular sandbox? Or if it needs to be at AFC, can you move it to a subpge of the simplewiki version (Wikipedia:Requested articles)?
There's no rush on the batch protect thing. I don't anticipate it being used, but it's nice to have. Osiris (talk) 13:03, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Oh, also... when you have time, can you give me a list of all the script pages used? Once we've worked out all the little kinks, I'd like to copy your scripts directly into the interface page for the gadget. Osiris (talk) 13:09, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I'll set up an preference option for that. Yes, I've moved the sandbox page now to Wikipedia talk:Requested pages/Sandbox.
You just need to replace MediaWiki:Gadget-Twinkle.js with MediaWiki:Gadget-Twinkle2.js and customise MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition. All the best, --intforce (talk) 15:18, 3 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Oh I'm talking about the actual code to copy into the interface page-- like Barras was saying, so we're not relying on user scripts... I know you probably haven't fully finished with it yet, but when you are I'd like to put the code directly into the gadget's interface page. Osiris (talk) 11:13, 4 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I understand that. But Twinkle2.js currently just imports the script from User:LightForce/MediaWiki:Gadget-Twinkle.js because I do not have enough rights to edit in the MediaWiki namespace... --intforce (talk) 11:34, 4 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Right, so it's just the one script. I know that you won't be able to edit the page, which is annoying, but when you've fully finished with the code you probably won't need to change it much at all. It's not urgent, I just mean eventually... when everything is done. Osiris (talk) 14:39, 4 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
You can do that, but then I will need to bother you everytime when I fix a bug or something like that   --intforce (talk) 15:15, 4 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Oh yes, and when you've moved the script to MediaWiki:Gadget-Twinkle.js, please change User:EhJJ/twinkle.js and User:LightForce/twinkle.js to
// Twinkle has moved!
//  - see [[WP:TW]] for more information
//  - for the code, see [[MediaWiki:Gadget-Twinkle.js]]
mw.loader.load(['ext.gadget.Twinkle']);

Thanks! --intforce (talk) 15:20, 4 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Okay, but I probably won't do it for a month at least, because I know you're still working on it. Osiris (talk) 17:44, 4 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey mate. Adding block messages isn't working. The dialogue box works fine, including the preview feature (very cool), but when it comes to making the actions it stalls and doesn't complete it. I tried it three times, none of them worked. Osiris (talk) 05:07, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hm, it works here. Did you bypass your cache? If you are using Chrome, go to User:LightForce/MediaWiki:Gadget-Twinkle.js and press [CTRL] + [Shift] + [R]. --intforce (talk) 06:01, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Twinkle change

  Twinkle Barnstar

A small token of appreciation for your massive improvement of one of our most widely used gadgets. I have no doubt that your work over the past few months will make a lot of things easier for all of us. And eventually it will probably be taken for granted, so this is my small token of recognition of your work and commitment. Osiris (talk) 07:03, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

What good timing you have. I am trying to add references to the [page]. I added one. How can I use this same reference multiple times. How can I set up the references correctly. Thank you. Tylas ♥✫ 16:39, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Oh yeah. You can take a look at Wikipedia:Citing sources.
Okay, you got this currently: <ref>http://www.isst-d.org/jtd/GUIDELINES_REVISED2011.pdf</ref>. This will set up a reference. To use it multiple times, you must wrap it with an <ref name/>-Tag:
<ref name="NAME">http://www.isst-d.org/jtd/GUIDELINES_REVISED2011.pdf</ref> (you may need to give the reference a name - in my example, I used NAME)
You add this ref name tag to the first place where you need the reference. Starting from the second reference, you can use <ref name="NAME" /> --intforce (talk) 16:48, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Templates for Twinkle change

I've been going through the script trying to fill Category:Templates used by Twinkle properly. In the script, there are some mentions of policies and guidelines that we don't have.

I don't think they're affecting the script in any way, but can these parts be removed? Osiris (talk) 03:35, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

There is also a section for tagging files, which we don't really need. None of the templates (about 22) exist here, and won't need to. The only template we have for files is {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}}.

I hope you don't mind, but I removed a few things that I thought were okay to. The things above, I haven't addressed yet. Osiris (talk) 03:53, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

One more thing: could you please add the notice {{Uw-encopyright}} and the multi-warnings {{Uw-copyright1}} and {{Uw-copyright2}} to the set? Osiris (talk) 04:14, 9 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Twinkle suggestion change

I know you just got through updating all the Twinkle stuff. Would it be much trouble to add something to the quick delete process to allow typing in the "additional information" data? It is the second parameter. It's not documented on the {{QD}} doc page, but it works. As an example, I just added additional information to a QD request on Category:Astronomical infobox templates. The code on that page now looks like this (unless it has been deleted already):

{{qd|c1|Category is renamed to Astronomy infobox templates}}

Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 05:54, 12 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Shall I add it just for category tagging or for tags generally (some tags like nonsense or user request may not need additional rationale) ? Regards, @intforce 14:12, 12 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I would add it to all. The additional information is not necessarily a rationale. There could be other information that an editor wants to include. --Auntof6 (talk) 15:27, 12 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Category:QDR change

No problem.I tagged an atricle for Quick deletion and it didn't appear in the list.Receptie123 (talk) 18:24, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, you'd probably need to purge your cache. (see this) --@intforce 18:26, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ok.Thanks for the advice.Receptie123 (talk) 18:28, 14 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
(talk page stalker) I found one recently that was tagged but wasn't in the list, either. It had been tagged for a long time, so I added the category manually to get it to show up. I know, of course, that that's not the right procedure, but something wasn't working. --Auntof6 (talk) 01:52, 15 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I know that issue. But I haven't found the fix for that yet. --@intforce 08:29, 15 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! change

This is a great big virtual hug for creating Gini coefficient. It was my request because it is on every single country's infobox. Now readers can link over and figure out if the number is good or bad. Thank you so very much! --Tbennert (talk) 18:22, 15 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! I always try to do my best   --@intforce 20:37, 15 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs change

I noticed you have been patrolling new pages. On one instance you removed the tag Auntof6 had placed for unreferenced BLP. Then there were several that were not tagged that should have been. This tag is very important to place on any article of living person that is not referenced. As a matter of fact, these types of articles are deleted on English. Ask if you have any questions. Thanks --Tbennert (talk) 19:08, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Oh, sorry! Next time I'll be more attentive. Thanks that you noticed me. --@intforce 19:12, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

{{QD}} change

I wonder whether you might know why some pages listed with the QD template are not listed in the quick deletion category. See for example: File:Adolf_hitler.jpg, User:Russavia/userboxes/polandball, Category:Inspector Rex characters and your own user subpages User:Intforce/QD log and /about. It looks to me as if it is something with the namespaces, but I haven't been able to find out. Thank you, --Savh·Tell me 12:33, 15 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think it has something to do with the {{ambox}} template. I did some changes to the QD template now in order to fix it, can you please recheck the issue? Thanks, @intforce 14:16, 15 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Okay, seems that Osiris fixed it now :) --@intforce 15:03, 15 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

The category handler makes sure (quite logically) that only articles using an ambox are put into the categories called by |cat=. However, several ambox templates are often used outside of the mainspace. The most common offenders are {{qd}}, {{rfd}} and {{complex}}; {{redlinks}} is often seen on navbox template pages, and {{moveto}} is often used on talk pages. The two deletion templates should probably be calling {{mbox}} instead. The solution for the others is either to...

  1. ...not use the |cat= parameter on those templates (which I've had to do to fix the QD template here),
  2. ...force the cat handler to put all pages in the categories regardless of namespace (which I've done at least temporarily here),
  3. ...discourage the use of maintenance tags in other namespaces, or accept that they won't categorise pages into any category.

Any thoughts? Osiris (talk) 16:33, 15 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

How about enabling the feature on other namespaces too? Or we could add an additional parameter to the ambox template, which enables other namespaces if the parameter is set to true. Maybe {{{namespaceallow}}}. We could use this parameter in the wd, rfd, complex etc templates then. @intforce 16:45, 15 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
That could be okay, although enabling it on the template namespace will be difficult, because it will have to content with the error detection bit. Savh mentioned on IRC yesterday that the code is already massively complex, and I kind of agree. I'd honestly prefer it if they were only used on articles, since it's specifically a template for article space and we have other versions for the other namespaces. Another solution is to use namespace detect in some of the templates, so {{moveto}} used on a talk page will transcluse {{tmbox}} instead. Osiris (talk) 09:02, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that would a good solution too. Maybe this (example for moveto template):
{{#switch: {{NAMESPACE}}: Talk | User talk | Wikipedia talk | Template talk = {{tmbox
| name  = Moveto
| subst = <includeonly>{{subst:</includeonly><includeonly>substcheck}}</includeonly>
| type  = move
| issue = '''It is proposed that this page is moved to [[{{{1}}}]].'''<br />
| fix = <small>This can be talked about on [[{{TALKPAGENAME}}|the page's talk page]].</small>
| all = Proposed page moves
}}
| #default = {{ambox
| name  = Moveto
| subst = <includeonly>{{subst:</includeonly><includeonly>substcheck}}</includeonly>
| type  = move
| issue = '''It is proposed that this article is moved to [[{{{1}}}]].'''<br />
| fix = <small>This can be talked about on [[{{TALKPAGENAME}}|the article's talk page]].</small>
| all = Proposed page moves
}}
}}<noinclude>[[Category:Page quality and condition templates]]</noinclude>
--@intforce 09:47, 16 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

┌─────────────┘
Well, those parameters don't work in {{tmbox}}. If the parameters and text were the same, you only need to change the first letter (as in |t|a}}mbox). But using {{mbox}} the detection is done automatically. The problem is that the move template is currently using |issue= and |fix=, which aren't going to be used by any other type of message box. I don't see why the move template would need to use those, though, if it's not going inside {{articleissues}}. The simplest code to use would be

{{mbox
| name  = Moveto
| subst = <includeonly>{{subst:</includeonly><includeonly>substcheck}}</includeonly>
| type  = move
| text = '''It is proposed that this article is moved to [[{{{1}}}]].'''<br /><small>This can be talked about on [[{{TALKPAGENAME}}|the article's talk page]].</small>
}}<includeonly>
{{{cat|[[Category:Proposed page moves]]}}}
</includeonly>

Osiris (talk) 04:50, 17 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Oh, actually, I just noticed that {{movenotice}} already has this markup. Should probably redirect one to the other. Osiris (talk) 04:53, 17 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Importing change

Since you are new to admining I will give you a tip. When you import, don't select import all templates used. It almost always causes problems because it will import everything and it will go over top of what we already have and sometimes we have modified templates to do things differently than en and you end up replacing what we modified. And on some pages that can be hundreds of templates that you could possibly over write. Not the case this time but thought I would catch you before you do it. Many an admin has fallen into this trap the first time they import. It is usually better to just import the main template and then see what redlink errors you get and see if you should import those ones. -DJSasso (talk) 11:56, 19 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the tip. I'll keep it in head next time. --@intforce 12:01, 19 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Interface pages change

Hey. I hope you are getting used to all the new buttons! I just want to make sure you're careful when deleting interface pages. An article I tried to delete today came up with the default delete summary (i.e., "content was:..."), and I noticed that you deleted the gadget that all of us sysops were using to override this. I saw you replaced a related script with a dash, so I had to go sifting through bug reports to find what you were trying to achieve. It's fine now, although I'm not quite sure whether or not the MediaWiki maintenance bot will revert the changes back to the default. If it does, we'll either have to file a request to change our settings or restore that gadget. Osiris (talk) 02:55, 20 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Oh, sorry for any inconveniences and thank you for fixing this; after replacing MediaWiki:Excontentauthor it still showed up "content was" in some cases. Mh7kJ and I were wondering about that. --@intforce 05:01, 20 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

    • Added resource module for loading site information
    • Improved change handling on the client, including when items are deleted and inserting changes that affect the client wiki in the client’s recent changes (still rough)

Template help change

Hello! I know that you have worked quite a bit on templates. I would like to ask a (hopefully) small favor. Template:Redlinks is showing the date twice. Everything works perfectly proper, it just doesn't look as pretty as it could. List of cities in Sudan is an example of one of the pages with the display of the template. Not any big hurry, but I would appreciate if you could add this to your tasklist and take a look when you get a chance. Thank you! --Tbennert (talk) 03:32, 1 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) I've   Fixed it :-) Greets, Vogone (talk) 10:36, 1 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Question change

Now I know why the simple Wikipedia needs new contributors: Your community is short, maybe too short. My question is: Shouldn't the only candidate on Wikipedia:Proposed good articles be removed from the page? The candidature is already over. --«NewWikiBoy» (talk) 19:11, 27 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the reminder. I've now closed the proposal as stale. --@intforce 05:17, 28 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Another question: Here are the same image rights as in the normal English Wikipedia, and everybody may use Fair-use, right? --«NewWikiBoy» (talk) 17:13, 3 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
No. Unlike other Wikipedias, Simple English Wikipedia does not allow images to be uploaded directly to this project. All images used on Simple English Wikipedia should come from "Wikimedia Commons", which is a shared collection of free images. (quoted from Wikipedia:Image use policy). So you can not upload any media to this wiki leaving out some very few exceptions. All the best --@intforce 19:39, 4 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

ForceBot change

Abend,

--@intforce 12:00, 2 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Läuft der nicht auf dem Toolserver? --MaxEddi (talk) 22:10, 2 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Interwiki-Bots sind nicht auf dem Toolserver erlaubt. --@intforce 11:14, 3 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ach da war was...

Heya change

Hope everything is going good. When you have a chance, can you have a look at my recent edits to the Twinkle script? I tried to match up Category:Templates used by Twinkle, which I think I've done. But I noticed a few items that we don't have: Template:Rough translation, Template:Cat improve and Template:Not English.

Can we remove them or do you think they should be created? Osiris (talk) 15:47, 4 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hm, I think we don't need the templates. I mean, if we ever use them, there will only be a very few amount of articles in the cat. Generally, if we e.g. look on "Not English", we'd rather speedy delete the article. Best wishes, --@intforce 16:49, 4 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I agree that we don't really need them. Osiris (talk) 11:42, 5 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Request change

Hey Intforce!

I saw you're active ATM. Could you revdel all edits made by 66.97.29.2, please? It's spam.

Thanks in advance, Vogone (talk) 17:29, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Well, not all. Only those which were made today. ;-) Vogone (talk) 17:31, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
I don't see how that fits the revdel policy. Kansan (talk) 17:32, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • Development
    • Deployed new code on wikidata.org. All changes can be found here
    • Updated demo system
    • http://test2.wikipedia.org now uses http://wikidata.org for getting language links and wikidata.org edits affecting the existing articles on test2 show up in RecentChanges (if they are not hidden)
    • Statements (think of “population: 2.000.000” and similar things) are taking shape in the interface. They are still pretty buggy though at this point.
    • It is now possible to link to images on Wikimedia Commons in a statement (think of “image: sundown_at_the_beach.png” for example)
    • Links are now protocol-relative (bugzilla:42534)
    • No longer possible to create new items and set labels when database is set to read-only
    • Added more tests to the GeoCoordinate parser
    • Make use of EditEntity in removeclaims API
    • Removed many singletons to reduce global state
    • Made SpecialSetLabel work with non-item entities
    • Improved settings system
    • Improved options of ValueFormatters
    • Improved options of ValueParsers
    • Moved label+description uniqueness check out of transaction to avoid deadlocks and changed it to only be enforced for edits changing any violating values
    • Fixed serialization of SiteArray
    • ~=[,,_,,]:3
    • Had to fix reporting of aliases in wbsearchentities again
    • Implemented integration of baserevids for statements UI API calls for editconflict detection for statements/claims/snaks
    • Universal Language Selector fallback fix for Selenium tests
    • Report URL to entity in wbsearchentites API module
    • Moved the demo system to a larger server
    • Fixed several bugs in Statements user interface, most notably, adding Statements to existing sections and layout fixes
    • Added wikibase API module on the client to provide information about the associated repo (e.g. url, script path, article path)
    • A bunch of messages for autocomments were fixed (they are automatically added as an edit summary for edits on items and co in Wikidata - for example: “‎Changed [en] description: Finnish rock band”)

Hexaplex erythrostomus change

Forgive me for leaving this article lie, that's an insult to newborn baby, I do not want my name to appear on that you leave, if you please remove my name, I see that the thing is to protect the user and Auntof6 that they get away with it. Well I will complain in the Wikimedia Foundation, because I see that here not accomplish anything. Happy day to you too. --Veronidae (talk) 22:33, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

One of the key principles of the the Wikimedia Foundation is that you shouldn't submit anything unless you are willing to have it edited mercilessly. You can't copy and paste articles here from en. That is against our policies, you must simplify them. Frankly if you don't understand that and were to keep doing it after being warned about it, you would likely find youself in a block situation and no one wants that. Please just try to understand what the goal of this wiki is. -DJSasso (talk) 13:19, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
