June 2019
changeHello! Thank you for creating a new category. However, we normally need at least three pages in a category before it is created. Because categories are a way to group together similar articles, there is no need to create a new category for just one or two articles. If you think there might be more pages to add to the new category, please add them now. Thank you. Auntof6 (talk) 00:03, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
An editor has requested deletion of Category:Unincorporated communities in Douglas County, Kansas, an article you created. We appreciate your changes, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Please comment on the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2019/Category:Unincorporated communities in Douglas County, Kansas and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also change the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns. But you should not remove the requests for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you very much. Auntof6 (talk) 17:40, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
Articles
changeHi, Junedude433. Thanks for your work here. Please note the following:
- In several articles, you used the heading "Links" for external links. Please use "Other websites" instead, because that is the standard here.
- Some of your settlement articles, such as Schulte, Kansas, have been overcategorized, meaning that they are in two categories where one category is a parent of the other. Please use only the lower-level of the two categories.
Thanks very much. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:16, 17 June 2019 (UTC)
- Okay. I didn't know what the standard for the simplified "External Links" section was considering most articles don't have that section. I figured "Links" was good enough. I'll do that from now on. As for the categories, I'm mostly just emulating what categories the standard English Wikipedia has for each article. For the unincorporated places, they are in both the general Kansas unincorporated places category but also in their respective county's category. ~Junedude433talk 22:41, 17 June 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. Yes, I figured you were copying what enwiki does. We just don't do it that way here. If you'd like info on other things we do differently, see this list that I keep. --Auntof6 (talk) 22:45, 17 June 2019 (UTC)
- A second suggestion, please copy all of the associated references too, you have created several articles with broken references. Nunabas (talk) 15:54, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
Commenting on requests for deletion
changeAfter an RFD closes, please don't make any more changes to it. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:13, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
- I didn't notice it had been closed. When I commented, it still showed it as open. Won't happen in the future.~Junedude433talk 18:25, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
Redlinked categories
changeA note about adding redlinked categories to pages: Please don't leave them as redlinked for very long. If you don't find 3 entries for a category in a short period of time, remove the category from pages. If you can find 3 entries, add them to the category and create it. Category:People from Lawrence, Kansas has more than enough entries to be created. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:28, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
categories
changeI'm looking at the wanted categories, and I'm seeing a lot of Kansas-related pages with redlinked Kansas-related categories. If you're bringing articles from enwiki, please remember to adjust the categories as needed so we have good categorization here. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 09:04, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
- I will adjust them when needed. I still plan on bringing many more articles to the Simple English Wikipedia, but I'm more or less away from a computer at the moment. I won't be back properly editing until very late August, so that would be when more articles would be imported (and thus, the categories won't be an issue). I appreciate the concern - it makes me feel like someone is at least noticing my work. ~Junedude433talk 09:12, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
Towns in Kansas?
changeHi Junedude433,
I noticed that Kansas does not seem to to have any articles about towns. Since you have done a lot of work in this area I wonder if you could add something to Towns in the United States about Kansas.
I am simply curious. Thanks for your contributions. Ottawahitech (talk) 19:46, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
- I don't think there's much to say about towns in Kansas. Kansas is fairly typical when it comes to how it categorizes towns. I can try to put something in there when I get back to a computer in a few days. Thanks for asking! ~Junedude433talk 22:32, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Ottawahitech: I added info for Kansas in the article, but I'm not really sure if it truly applies. Legally, there is no such thing as a "town" in Kansas as every incorporated place is called a city. I added it, but I don't know if it should stay. I also added sections for other states, so it's still improved regardless. ~Junedude433talk 22:47, 26 August 2019 (UTC)
Stub types
changeHi, Junedude433. You might not have known, but on this wiki, new stub types need to be approved before being used. The stub template and category you created for economics stubs has not been approved, so I have removed the template from articles and deleted the template and category.
The guideline for new stub types is at Wikipedia:Simple Stub Project#New stubs. The place to request a new type is at Wikipedia talk:Simple Stub Project. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:28, 4 October 2019 (UTC)
Redlinked Kansas-related categories, again
changeI've been seeing a lot of these again. Please address them before you create more pages. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 08:28, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
Checkusership vote
changeHello! I noticed your edit summary on Operator873's request. Interestingly enough, the global checkuser policy requires a minimum of 25 votes for the nomination to end successfully. In the past, we've even extended requests two or three times the normal length to get to the minimum vote, though the last request was a while ago. So, in a way, every vote does count :) Vermont (talk) 00:55, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
- And I appreciate your vote! Operator873talkconnect 01:02, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
Spokeo
changeI think you might find it interesting, so here: when I read your question on Efcer's oversighter request I clicked on the Spokeo link as I had never heard of that company before. I clicked on the website link in the infobox, and the link (spokeo.cf) redirected me to beenverified.com, a competitor. After going to the link a few more times, I found it also redirects people to instantcheckmate.com and truthfinder.com, which I assume are all operated by the same entity. I've since removed the addition on enwiki (replacing it with spokeo.com, the correct link), the account that added it has been blocked, an enwiki checkuser I contacted found and blocked a handful of connected socks, and I've globally blacklisted spokeo.cf and the three domains it redirects to. In a nutshell, your question inadvertently helped unearth a subtle spam technique that was redirecting traffic away from Spokeo and to their competitors. Best, Vermont (talk) 21:51, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

It truly is incredible how one little action can spark a chain of events that results in a conclusion that nobody could see coming. Always glad to see how my contributions are helping! ~Junedude433talk 00:00, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

I'm really glad that this article was finally made. But, i didn't want it to be made in the way it has been. I appreciate your hardwork but copy-paste editing from other wikis is only spareable in the case of infoboxes in my opinion. Copying a part of an article from English Wikipedia is quite disruptive because both wikis are different and hence many new errors are introduced. For instance, see the "Results" section of the respective article. It is full of mistakes and the ones which would take much time to correct. If you can correct it then please do and in case you are short on time, just delete the article because if you delete it, then i may think about making it just the way i made Best European Goalkeeper, an article which is better than its English wikipedia counterpart. Regards ClumsyMind (talk) 01:01, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Agreed. I don't disagree with copying tables, but unfortunately we don't have those templates so its totally broken at the moment. IWI (chat) 01:04, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- I have to disagree. Taking from another wiki is acceptable, as long as what is taken is then adapted into Simple English wording. We have plenty of examples of good and very good articles that were formed based on the English Wikipedia counterpart. If you do copy from another wiki, it's necessary to include notation of having copied it on the article's talk page using a template like {{interwiki copy}}.
- If you believe that there's mistakes on the article, you can also fix them. Only (talk) 16:45, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- I agree. But when you copy a table with templates we don't have, this is problematic, Only. IWI (chat) 16:48, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- I've imported that templates now. Only (talk) 17:07, 10 June 2020 (UTC)

Review of Lawrence, Kansas
changeHi, Just a quick note to say I have left a (partial) review on the article talk page. I will try to review the rest of the article this weekend. --Yottie =talk= 21:19, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
- Hello, I have now added the second part of the review. The article is in good shape, most of my comments were about minor issues. Once these are fixed, I reckon it has a good chance of making VGA. I will also try to run through the references (Sunday or Monday). One reference I randomly clicked on didn't seem to have the right info, but I need more time to look into this. Keep up the good work, it's almost there. --Yottie =talk= 20:54, 1 August 2020 (UTC)
I've replied to some of your comments. Almost there! --Yottie =talk= 22:03, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
Review of Lawrence Massacre
changeHello, The first part of the review is now on the article's talk page. I'll work on the second part when I have time. --Yottie =talk= 18:03, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
- I have now added the second part of the review. Great job so far, this will make a great addition to our (Very) Good articles.--Yottie =talk= 11:18, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
Really good job so far, keep up the good work. I'm excited to see this promoted in due course! --Yottie =talk= 21:11, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
Promotion of Lawrence, Kansas to VGA
changeThe Geography Barnstar | ||
Hi, you will be pleased to know that Lawrence, Kansas was promoted to VGA today. Thank you for the hard work and determination in seeing it through the VGA process. The article will be featured on the Main Page's daily rotation in 11 days, so do look out for it. Once again, congratulations! Chenzw Talk 15:33, 13 August 2020 (UTC) |

Chenzw and IWI beat me to it, but absolutely deserved. Well done for perservering with Lawrence, Kansas. Fantastic work! Yottie =talk= 18:43, 13 August 2020 (UTC) |

Kansas updates
changeHey Junedude433! Keep an eye out for Kansas political-related articles as today the state will have some new congressional reps so some congressional districts/politician articles will have to be updated. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 15:31, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for notifying me. I'll have to get back into the swing of things. ~Junedude433talk 17:55, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Bob Dole
changeShame over the Bob Dole cancer diagnosis. A trailblazing American politician. I have an interest in fixing up the article and maybe nominating it in the near future. Would you be interested in helping me? I'll probably start working on expanding the article in the summer. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 18:28, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
I could help out, sure. It would be good to have a recent GA or VGA that was a collaborative effort instead of it being from just one person ~Junedude433talk 19:25, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
WikiProject invitation
changeHello Junedude433, I would like to invite you to WikiProject Vital Articles! There are over 100,000 articles on Simple English Wikipedia, but this project's goal is to work on 100 of the most important articles. We will choose one or two articles to improve at a time. We will try to make the articles more complete or promote them to good article status. Hope to see you there! Naddruf (talk) 19:41, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
Bob Dole GA or VGA?
changeHey Junedude433, I was thinking about expanding the Bob Dole article for a potential GA status as I feel that Simple English Wiki needs some more GA/VGA articles. This week I'll be working on the article but the one question I was wondering is do you think the article has potential for VGA? My mindset is working on getting it to GA status, but VGA would not be that far of a stretch. Thoughts? --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 08:20, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- Update: I expanded the article, however I'm having trouble expanding his U.S. Senate career section as I feel that not even enwiki has enough info to summarize his prolific senate career. --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 13:26, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- I'll try to look through to find some good sources that could be used for expansion. ~Junedude433talk 23:17, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
Helping with a research project in Simplification
changeHello Junedude433,
I'm reaching out to you because I am working on a research project on simplification and am looking to collaborate with domain experts.
A quick introduction: I am a researcher interested in text simplification and am working towards publishing a resource in text simplification based on Simple Wikipedia (quite a rich encyclopedia). We believe this resource, which we will make public, could be valuable to educate and increasing awareness of text simplification.
Some colleagues and I are looking to collaborate with domain experts in the creation of the resource. We've secured some budget for our research project, so there's the possibility to remunerate a few experts that would work with us.
I do not mean to spam you, so feel free to disregard/delete if you feel this is inappropriate (and I apologize). On the other hand, if you are interested, please feel free to reach out, either directly on Wikipedia or by email (phillab@berkeley.edu) and I would be happy to tell you more.
Thank you, and sorry again if you feel this is inappropriate,
Philippe Laban
