Samuel abera (born 1979) is an Ethiopian Politician and member of the opposition United Ethiopian Democratic Party – Medhin (UEDP – Medhin). He was born in Awassa, Ethiopia.
He became a member of UEDP – Medhin in Dec. 2000. Mr. Abera was started to participate fully and took part in the party’s public awareness and propaganda campaigns, preparation and distribution of UEDP political literatures, fundraising drives, panel discussions and public demonstrations.
Since his early activism days, Mr. Abera has been jailed more than four times and faced various government harassment which have been harmed his health.
In the first quarter of 2001, the political situation in the country worsened. EPRDF became more violent and harsh on opposition party. Mr. Abera was participated in pro-democracy demonstration of Addis Ababa University student in April 18, 2001; he was detained at Sendafa Special Police camp and was tortured.
