Welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia

Hi, Juliancolton/Archive 1! Welcome to Simple English Wikipedia! Thank you for your changes.

If you need help, check out the Help section of Wikipedia, or leave a message on my talk page.

Whenever leaving messages on talk pages, please remember to sign your name by typing four 'tildes' (like this: ~~~~); doing this makes your name and the date show up. Also, it helps if you write something in the box that says 'edit summary' whenever you change an article.

Below are some useful links to make your time here simpler.

If you make a short article please mark it with {{stub}}, our guideline is here: Stubs

Happy editing! SwirlBoy39 15:15, 30 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Are you thinking of putting this up for voting at PGA? Giggy (talk) 00:22, 6 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello!

Yep, this is your friend Dylan620 from the English Wikipedia. I'm an official n00b here, but local sysop American Eagle (talk · contribs) has agreed to help me out. (To tell you the truth, requesting his mentorship was my second edit as a registered user!) BTW, I've joined the Simple English WPTC. What do you think could be improved to the project? After all, Snake311's retirement in late July means that you and I are the only active members of the Simple English WPTC. --Dylan620 15:25, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Good to see you, too! :-) I'm beginning to get into the groove of the project; I just marked 2004 Atlantic hurricane season as a stub. Also, since there are almost no TC season timelines, I have the ultimate chance to truly exercise my timeline prowess. (Should I simplify that last sentence, or is it OK the way it is?) BTW, on the English Wikipedia, I've made my own header. Do you like it? And on a side note, Chris G Bot (talk · contribs) warned me for vandalism, saying that I vandalized your talk page via my first post on it. Would you call that vandalism? Do you think I was warned appropriately? --Dylan620 16:27, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I am also here. Look what i done with the 1997 Pacific hurricane season

Hey!

Thank you for welcoming me. I've seen you around the English Wikipedia quite a bit (actually, I believe I voted in your RfA), but, since the creation of Baduhenna was my first edit here, I'm a complete n00b. Would you be willing to mentor me, at least until I can work out what qualifies as "Simple English"? ErikTheBikeMan (talk) 14:52, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I'll be sure to keep that advice in mind. ErikTheBikeMan (talk) 19:45, 19 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Welcoming new users

Hi there Julian. I would like to recommend that you wait to welcome new users until they make at least 1 good mainspace edit. That way, two things happen. First, we don't create lots of pages that probably won't ever be used again, and second, we have the best possible chance to get more active editors :). Hope this helps :). RFA ´grats

Hey Julian. Missed this, wasn´t even aware you were active on Simple, but I´ve been away a while. Nice one, enjoy the tools. This place (on a quick glance) appears to be going downhill quite a bit, lots of sniping and viciousness, particularly at RFA... Still, when I return I intend to shake it up a little, especially in the realms of making it into a decent encyclopedia, which I think a lot of people have overlooked. They tend to treat this is as another version of Myspace. Anyway, well done again, look forward to working with you on my return in late March. He doesn't have to add the enwp based template to the talk page if he includes a link to the en:WP article in his edit summary when he creates the page, like I do. That way, he completes the GFDL requirements and creates the new pages :). Cheers, Razorflame 17:48, 12 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I noticed you removed information regarding the edibility of hats in the Hats article. This information is correct, and is by no means an opinion. If I am able to provide citation to an academic study or report regarding the edibility of hats, will you refrain from reverting my changes?

It is presumed that hats are not eaten, thus the information is not acceptable in the article. I apologize if your edit was made in good-faith, but it seemed like a test to me. –Juliancolton (talk) 16:55, 23 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Is there more to why this is POV?

http://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Adolf_Hitler&diff=cur&oldid=1466300

Mention of Homosexuals having civil rights stripped is fact, explanation of the word Dictator as complete ruler IS the definition of the word. Perhaps my explanation of what the removal of civil rights means could be considered POV (I couldn't think of a better way to phrase it, will try) but "destroyed europe" is incorrect, Europe is still in existence and has not been destroyed. As you're an administrator, I'm going to leave any further editing on that page until I understand your justification. -Kingreaper (talk) 23:42, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well, regardless of whether it's factually accurate, it's a pretty controversial statement; therefore it needs to be cited to reliable sources. Addition, "(treated as less than human)" is very POV. See the relevant policy for more information. Regards, –Juliancolton | Talk 23:44, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'll try and find a better simple english way to describe loss of human rights. I made no factual claims that the article didn't already make, so I didn't think I needed to add citations. And I haven't seen any controversy as regards Nazi Germany's treatment of Homosexuality (regardless of the fact it was already mentioned in the article) but I will try and find a source for it if the articles OTHER statement of said fact is also unsourced. -Kingreaper (talk) 23:50, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Amazing how this wiki uses enwp policies/guidelines as it conveniences them then shoots them down when it doesn't, last I checked I was told when there isn't a policy here for it we follow en's example, and personally I agree with en:WP:ENGVAR.--   CM16  01:06, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

So you agree with it? A very strong argument you've got there. –Juliancolton | Talk 01:07, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well, I'm sick of this "I'll-use-it when-it's-convenient-for-me" thing so I've started a thread on it here.--   CM16  01:16, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sounds exactly like what I expressed five days ago basically. Either way (talk) 01:28, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dash?

What with all of the dash moves evidenced in your move log? There was already a dash there. I believe the dash you changed all those articles to make them harder to access. But I wanted to hear you side before I did whatever.--   CM16  05:29, 17 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

A hyphen is not a dash; see WP:MOSDASH. –Juliancolton | Talk 14:38, 17 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Also, they're not harder to access, as it left redirects behind. –Juliancolton | Talk 14:39, 17 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Question

So we've got User:SchnitzelMannGreek, who previously engaged in major sockpuppeting on en-wiki, trying to start anew and put the past behind him here. I've agreed to mentor/adopt him, but as I can't always be on here, I'm thinking there needs to be another experienced editor also co-adopting/mentoring to watch over his edits and answer his questions while I'm away. Would you (or do you know somebody else who would) be willing fulfil this role? Thanks. Inferno, Lord of Penguins 21:51, 24 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
