Blocked (April Fools) change

  • You have been blocked for a period of 1,000,000 Buzzlightyears for not reading this comment, once the block has expired 'finished' you will be allow to edit again. If you think that LEDs are the reason you have been blocked, you may (try to beat the LED bulb) appeal by the template {{unblock|incandescent lightbulb goes here}}. This sentence makes no sense, neither should the block, because APRIL FOOLS!;-) --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:27, 1 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Question change

Hi, Vermont, could you take a look at this removal of content, it does not seem valid. Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:32, 27 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Handled, thanks! Vermont (talk) 00:57, 27 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the fast reply! Once I saw a meme where a guy copied a whole Wikipedia article, but made sure the article didn't actually exist to avoid being caught. ;P --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 01:01, 27 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Tiny request change

I'm not sure if you're active on the English Wikipedia, but if you are, I was hoping that you could please quickly correct this typo here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Inquiry#Albania,_Constantinople,_the_Straits,_and_the_Middle_East

"Meanwhile, in regards to Anatolia, it was advised for an independent Turkish Anatolian state tp be created under a League of Nations mandate, with the Great Power in charge of the mandate being determined later."

It's "*to* be created", not "tp be created". Thank you.

I don't do proxy editing, and I would recommend you do not try. Editors on that project can fix it themselves. Best, Vermont (talk) 21:41, 29 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
OK. Also, just how exactly does one do proper source attribution? For instance, on this article: The Inquiry? Can you please show me how to do this so that I will have a clear example visible and ready to go? Futurist110 (talk) 21:43, 29 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
For...referencing? Or copying from other projects? If it's the latter please see Template:Transwikied. Vermont (talk) 22:19, 29 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Did I use it correctly right now? For instance, for The Inquiry? Futurist110 (talk) 03:53, 1 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

question change

If "Abuse Filter" was blocked, could Abuse Filter unblock themselves? Just wondering! Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 21:50, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

The abuse filter isn't a person. Vermont (talk) 21:51, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but it says they have 'admin' rights... So would the script unblock the filter, or would it stay blocked? --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 21:52, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
The abuse filter does everything server-side, if I remember correctly. It doesn't actually use the administrator userright. Vermont (talk) 21:57, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Huh, interesting. Oh what does it mean when it says 'blocked the autopromotion of..." ? --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 21:58, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
It means a user triggered a filter that was set to remove the autopromotion (as in, when you hit 10 edits/4 days you become autopatrolled) of users who trigger it. I think. Vermont (talk) 22:06, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
That's what I thought too --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 22:09, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Question change

A while back we had a new user on SEWP (s)he asked if there was a way to change the way it said "my settings" instead of "preferences" in the top menu, I found a solution to that, do you know which user that was? Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 22:00, 27 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia in space change

Does Wikipedia work in outer space? ;) Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:05, 17 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Does the internet work in outer space? Darubrub (Let me know) 00:06, 17 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Well, if you're connected to the internet, then yes. And, as far as I know, we've only had one edit from space, and in November 2019. Best, Vermont (talk) 00:35, 17 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Technically speaking, would Aliens be allowed to edit Wikipedia provided they follow the rules? If they actually do edit, that would be real interesting. Also, I did not know that editing Wikipedia in space was even possible! --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:58, 17 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia is just a website. Why wouldn't you be able to edit it, as long as you can get an internet connection? --Auntof6 (talk) 01:22, 17 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Admin change

I'm Want Be an Administrator, Because I'm are a New Comer on Wikipedia, Vermont, Can You Promote Me? BA22100 GS91 (talk) 01:11, 2 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

No bureaucrat can unilaterally promote a user to admin, you have to submit a Wikipedia:RFA. You would unlikely pass as you are new you have to make a lot of contributions before you become an admin, you don’t get to become one as soon as you get here. So I suggest that you A) make a few hundred contributions and get involved in the administrative areas and B) after about 2-3 months leave me a message and I will request you a RFA if I think you are worthy but you have to put the work in before you get to become an admin. Thegameshowlad (talk) 13:27, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
It has less to do with putting in work and more to do with understanding administrative work and responsibilities. I would also recommend that you not nominate anyone for adminship anytime remotely soon. Best, Vermont (talk) 13:31, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

No. Vermont (talk) 04:46, 2 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
But Why? How to Be Promoted into Administrator? BA22100 GS91 (talk) 04:57, 2 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
It isn’t a promotion, it’s an increase in technical ability after the requisite showing of community trust. New users often don’t understand what we do or why and determine they want to become administrators; that is common, but not a positive thing. If you’d like to help edit, do so without the explicit intention of becoming an administrator. Vermont (talk) 04:59, 2 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Enquiry change

If someone is already blocked, can you block them while they are blocked. Or is "Changed Blocked Settings" the equivalent of this? Just a note, I am not as active now due to online school and life being crazy. Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 02:23, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

つがる, you can't really block someone twice. You can extend the block, change what it's a block from, other options, etc., and yes it's under change block settings. Best, Vermont (talk) 02:26, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Be kind... change

Hello Vermont, I blocked the self-confessed LTA for a week. If you have other info, feel free to adapt the block accordingly. --Eptalon (talk) 23:24, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

It's an LTA. No real point in extending the block as it'll hopefully be locked soon, whenever a stew gets to it. Best, Vermont (talk) 23:30, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Is Fuerdai WMF banned? Or is he just a locked user? SHB2000 (talk) 23:34, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Just locked, and has been for a while. Not sure if this one is Fuerdai specifically (it's a bit late for them to still be awake) or a copycat, but they're an LTA nontheless. Vermont (talk) 23:36, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users change

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)
