The 2008 United States presidential election in North Carolina took place as part of that year's national presidential election. This election took place on November 4, 2008. Barack Obama won, becoming the first Democrat to win North Carolina since Jimmy Carter in 1976. Obama was very narrowly elected, winning 49.7% of the vote. John McCain received 49.38% of the vote.
