The 2016 Nice attack happened on 14 July 2016 in Nice, France. A man drove a truck into people celebrating Bastille Day, the national day of France. He killed 86 and injured 434 people.[1][better source needed] Gunfire was reported; at first, people thought it was fireworks.[source?]

At around 22:45 local time, a truck was driven into a large crowd of people at Promenade des Anglais. Later, guns were fired. The driver, Tunisian truck driver Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, was killed by police.[2]
