Akrotiri (prehistoric city)
Bronze Age settlement on the volcanic Greek island of Santorini (Thera)
Akrotiri is a prehistoric site on the Greek island Santorini (also called Thira, or Thera in Greek). The settlement was destroyed by the Minoan eruption, which happened about 1600 BC. The volcanic ash preserved many objects, and frescoes. The history of the settlement goes back to the 5th millennium BC.
