It was inaugurated on 17 October 1965.[2] The church was destroyed by a fire on 3 August 2021.[3][4][5]

According to a police report published on 12 August the same year a lightning strike caused the fire.[6] This conclusion has later been questioned. No thunder was recorded by the SMHI witnesses claimed to have noticed firework explosions.[7]
