The arrondissement of Nevers is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Nièvre département in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Its capital, and prefecture of the department, is the city of Nevers.

History

When the Nièvre department was created on 17 February 1800, the arrondissement of Nevers was part of that original department.[2]

Geography

The arrondissement of Nevers is bordered to the north by the arrondissement of Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire, to the northeast by the arrondissement of Clamecy, to the east by the arrondissement of Château-Chinon (Ville), to the south by the Allier (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) department and to the west by the Cher (Centre-Val de Loire) department.

The arrondissement is in the southwestern part of the department, with an area of 2,020.3 square kilometres (780.0 square miles),[3] the largest in area of the department. It has 118,087 inhabitants, the arrondissement of Nièvre with more people living there, and a population density of 58.5 inhabitants/km².[4]
