Arrondissements of the Drôme department

There are 3 arrondissements in the Drôme department. The French departments, and in other countries, are divided into arrondissements, which may be translated into English as districts (in some cases, as boroughs). The capital of an arrondissement is called a subprefecture.
If the prefecture (capital) of the department is in an arrondissement, that prefecture is the capital of the arrondissement, acting both as a prefecture and as a subprefecture.
Arrondissements are further divided into communes.

History change
Since its creation, the Drôme department has had few changes:[3]
- 1790 : creation of the Drôme department with six districts: Romans, Valence, Die, Buis, Montélimar and Crest; Chabeuil was the capital but in the same year the capital was moved to Valence.
- 1800 : the six districts were changed into four arrondissements: Valence, Die, Montélimar and Nyons.
- 1926 : the arrondissement of Montélimar was eliminated.
