On 11 March, Ivory Coast recorded its first case of COVID-19. It was an Ivory Coast national who had recently been to Italy.[2]

On 16 March, the government announced that the total number of confirmed cases had risen to six, and that the patient identified on 11 March had made a recovery.[3] Ivory Coast also suspended flights for countries that had more than 100 cases for 15 days, only allowing citizens and residents, and closed all schools for an initial 30 days.[4]

On 20 March, the government announced five more confirmed cases, bringing the total number to 14.[5] The same day the government decided to close all borders from midnight on 22 March until further notice.[6]

On 27 March, 5 new cases were confirmed, bringing the total over the 100 benchmark with a total of 101 cases along with 2 patients recovering, thus bringing the total of recovered to 3.[7]

A 58-year-old female patient with diabetes, in a coma since 25 March, became the first death.[8]
