Captain (ice hockey)

In ice hockey, a captain is generally a player or in certain cases, a goalie, who is assigned by the head coach or voted on by teammates, who is considered the team leader.
A captain's primary role is to talk with the referees during play stoppages and usually relays the referees explanation back to his or her coach. Other responsibilities include, motivating their teammates, taking action in their local communities and representing the team in a professional manner. Along with captains, there are also assistant captains.
