Carmen Vázquez

American LGBT rights activist

Carmen Vázquez (January 14, 1949 – January 27, 2021) was a Puerto Rican activist and writer.

Born in Puerto Rico, she was raised in New York City.[1]

Vázquez co-founded The Women's Building, became the Executive Director of the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and then the Coordinator of Lesbian and Gay Health Services for the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

She was also the co-founder and co-chair of Somos Hermanas.

Vázquez died on January 27, 2021 of COVID-19 in New York City, aged 71.[2]
