A command in military terminology is a group of units or a group of people under the control of one officer. The group is usually made to do a set type of job most often of a combat type.

The definition of "command" according to the United States Department of Defense is: [1]

A unit or units, an organization, or an area under the command of one individual. Also called CMD. See also area command; combatant command; combatant command (command authority).
